American frontier action-RPG has a stylish look

WolfEye Studios was founded earlier this year by Arkane’s former creative director Raphaël Colantonio and former Arkane executive producer Julien Roby. Their credits include outstanding games like Prey and Dishonored. At The Game Awards tonight, the new company showed off its first game, Weird West.

It’s a stylish-looking top-down role-playing strategy game set in an alternative American frontier populated by supernatural beings, as well as Wild West standards like gunslingers and lawmen. Not much is known about the game; it has an XCOM look about it but is described by the company as an action-RPG. A trailer showed overhead-view shoot-outs taking place in a saloon and a yard, as well as weird priest-like characters, a werewolf, and a creepy dude with a burlap mask.

A statement from WolfEye said that players can “form a posse or venture forth alone,” and that “each journey is unique” in the game. Weird West is being published by Devolver Digital. No information yet on platforms or release date.
