Bravely Default 2 coming to Switch in 2020

It’ll be a Nintendo Switch exclusive

Julia Lee (she/her) is a guides producer, writing guides for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact. She helped launch the Rift Herald in 2016.

The Game Awards revealed a trailer for Bravely Default 2, not to be confused with Bravely Second: End Layer.

The trailer showed off what we know and love from Japanese role-playing games: a woman holding a crystal, castle towns, and a rag-tag party of adventurers standing on a cliffside.

The story will be completely new and feature a new party of characters from the original Nintendo 3DS game. While Bravely Second: End Layer continued the story of the original game, it looks like Bravely Default 2 will be a new stand-alone game, just sharing themes from the first game. This is nothing new for the publishing company, Square Enix, as the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series have both followed this model.

The game will be made by Team Asano and Claytechworks, and Reno will return to do the soundtrack.

Bravely Default 2 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and it’ll drop in 2020.
