We Are OFK is a new “interactive making-of-the-band series” from Hyper Light Drifter co-designer Teddy Dief. The band from the series, OFK, performed a debut single, “Follow/Unfollow,” at Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards on Thursday.
In a news release, We Are OFK is described as an interactive series where players will be able to “get involved, slow down and imagine what things look like from the band’s point of view.” Each episode of We Are OFK will debut a new song with an additional, interactive music video.
There are five episodes total, and they’ll be released across five weeks — they “will play like an interactive TV series, with some extra playable dimension and treats tossed in, including a new song from OFK in each episode,” Dief told Polygon.
“Everything the players will do lets them interact with the thoughts and explore the feelings of the band as they deal with all the shit in their personal lives that gets in the way of trying to make music.”
That means the “joys of creating, the frustrations of collaboration,” and just living life, according to the news release. Unlike a video game group like League of Legends’ K/DA, the members of OFK are not pop stars. They’re a group of friends making music in L.A. — “paying rent and trying to get by,” Dief said. They said the band will be more approachable and down-to-earth, focused more on their regular life “as indie artists.”
OFK’s performance at The Game Awards looks really impressive — the band’s dreamy pop tunes, paired with pastel visuals, makes for a polished, intriguing experience. Personally, I’m eager to see more of We Are OFK when the series debuts in spring 2021.
