New Game of Thrones images hint at the massive battle coming in episode 3

HBO isn’t giving much away

Austen Goslin (he/him) is an entertainment editor. He writes about the latest TV shows and movies, and particularly loves all things horror.

The next episode of Game of Thrones is likely to be the one of the most memorable, and possibly the show’s bloodiest. With so much at stake, HBO is keeping its teaser images for Sunday’s episode intentionally vague, but we can try to make a few guesses at their meaning.

Some of these images are ripped directly from the teaser, but for the most part, they give us a new look at what’s coming in the episode. For one, there’s a lot of darkness, a lot of fire, and some of everyone’s favorite characters looking concerned. Which makes sense, considering how last episode ended. For instance, Jon Snow facing down what can only be something terrible and dead.

We also get a few glimpses of what could be scenes before the battle, especially of Sansa.

Or this one, of her and Arya overlooking Winterfell’s ramparts.

We also see Dany and Jon, probably preparing for battle with their dragons, and looking down at the defenses of Winterfell.

We even get a shot of Varys and Tyrion spending time in the definitely-not-safe crypts.

Finally, in the most epic preview so far, we have an image of Brienne and Jaime standing side by side on the battlefield preparing for a fight.
