One of the world's largest fighting game tournaments will kick off in Melbourne, Australia on May 5.

Entering its third year, Shadowloo Showdown is Australia's leading fighting game tournament that attracts competitors from all around the world. It is one of the major tournaments in the lead-up to Evolution (also known as EVO) in Las Vegas, which is the most prestigious of fighting game tournaments.

"[This is] easily the biggest year for us," says Shadowloo Showdown organizer, Ali Abdo.

"We will have almost double the gaming set-ups for tournament and casual play, we have players coming down from more parts of the world than every before, and we have more prize money on the line, so we're really excited about Shadowloo Showdown 2k12."

The tournament will see players flying in from countries like the US, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Kuwait, New Caledonia, Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates to compete.

The games that will be played at the tournament include Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, SoulCalibur V, Tekken tag Tournament 2, Skullgirls, King of Fighters XIII, 3rd Strike: Online Edition, and Virtua Fighter V: Final Showdown (pre-release).

The tournament runs for two days and will be held at the CQ Hotel, 113 Queen St, Melbourne, Australia. For more information, visit the Shadowloo Showdown website. Watch the special guests teaser trailer below.
