Rayman Legends seems to be coming to the Wii U.
If authentic, a leaked Rayman Legends trailer indicates that the still unannounced Ubisoft game is coming to the Wii U. The video also seems to show that Nintendo's next console will still only support one tablet, but that tablet will be able to exchange data with special objects placed on its screen.
The video gives us a good look at the game's graphics, including how it will look on the touchscreen tablet, and reveals that the game will have "legendary settings," new playable characters, online gameplay, social gaming and "exclusive content for the Wii U."
In the video we see Rayman and pals fighting their way through a medieval setting, complete with burning castles and flying dragons, as some of the game's features are listed on the screen.
At one point we see four gamers sitting on a couch, side-by-side, playing the game, one of them with the Wii U tablet. The tablet's screen shows the entire game in action in lush, high-detailed graphics. At one point a player uses her finger to slide a platform up on the screen of the tablet, to help out the three other players' characters standing on it.
Another segment shows characters playing a soccer mini-game against one another. The game also appears to have challenges. In one segment we see a title card pop up that says a player can win 30 Rubis by scoring 980 lums in the ghost's pit.
Near the end of the video, one of the players takes a toy heart, which looks like it matches the art style of the game, from a nearby table and places it on the screen of the tablet. The tablet glows and then the characters on screen get health. The video ends as another player considers a line up of Ubisoft character action figures and then grabs one from Assassin's Creed and begins to place it on the screen.
The technology employed looks like it could be Near Field Communication, which uses a device that has the technology built into it and another that has an NFC chip or tag.
Polygon sources familiar with the Wii U say that the tablet has a cable coming out of the bottom of it because it is a dev kit, which currently is only available wired. The wireless version of the dev kits, we're told, won't be released to developers until June.
"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet," a Ubisoft UK spokesperson told Polygon. "This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features. This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier."
