PopCap begins merchandising Plants vs Zombies and Bejeweled.
PopCap is expanding a number of its properties into the realm of games merchandise after finalizing license deals for franchises Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled, the firm announced today.
The results of its first licensing agreements with Trends International, Bioworld Merchandising, Funko, MjC International, Jazwares and Walls360 are scheduled to begin appearing this spring, starting with merchandise from Plants vs. Zombies. PopCap will bring out additional products from other franchises in early 2013.
These include apparel, headwear, bags, accessories, plush toys and figures, electronic accessories, wall graphics, Pop! Vinyl figurines, adult sleepwear, and calendars.
In response to the brand expansions, PopCap Games' director of brand licensing Brennan Townley said: "We're taking a measured, deliberate approach to licensing our IPs, focusing on quality brand extensions that expand our unique game icons and experiences for our fans in authentic, meaningful ways."
This is the first time in the firm's 12-year history that its franchises have officially expanded to non-digital merchandise.
