Upcoming apocalyptic PS3 release The Last of Us received a new trailer today on the official Sony PlayStation blog, depicting Joel and Ellie's travels through the US as they meet with various survivors, some who may be dangerous.

Titled "The Sky has Turned Grey", the duo continue their journey West through an unnamed American city while the somber Hank Williams, Sr. classic "Alone and Forsaken" plays in their battered pick-up truck.

"As they drive towards the next destination on their route, and hopefully a place to find critical resources, the pair encounters a group of hunters. What happens next is something you have to witness to understand. Check it out in the video above," reads the blog.

The video also shows a newly designed Ellie, with the addition of a new nose shape and a loss of the freckles previously seen on the character.

Speaking to IGN, creative director Neil Druckman stated the design change was made in order to make her character look more similar to Ashley Johnson, the mo-cap artist and voice actor of Ellie.

"After delving further into the game's narrative over the past few months, we decided to modify Ellie's model to better reflect Ashley's personality, and also resemble a slightly younger teen more fitting to the story," he said.

"We're happy with the final result shown in the cinematic we have released today, and hope the fans like her too."

Developed by Uncharted's Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is expected to release next year.
