Aliens: Colonial Marines hits stores worldwide on Feb. 12, missing the fall 2012 release window announced for the game, Gearbox Software said this morning.

Originally scheduled for a spring 2012 release window, Sega said in January that the game would be coming in the fall of this year. The game was pushed back then to allow the developers to "make a great game."

In this morning's press release no reason was given for the second push back, though Gary Knight, senior vice president of marketing for Sega Europe and America, seems confident this date won't change.

"We knew this game would be incredible from the moment Gearbox began developing Aliens: Colonial Marines," Knight said. "Now that the title is in its final stretch of development, we can confidently release the exact date that gamers will finally get to experience this blockbuster thrill-ride."

While the shooter is headed to the PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 in February, but the Wii U version's release date has not yet been confirmed, according to the press release.

"SEGA has a proven track record with the Aliens franchise. Aliens Vs. Predator released by Sega in 2009 became one of their top-selling titles," said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President for New Media for Fox Consumer Products. "We look forward to working with them and bringing an exciting new way for fans to immerse themselves in the Aliens world."
