Angry Birds, in all its platforms and incarnations, has been downloaded over one billion times, developer Rovio announced today.
The franchise, which only just launched in December 2009, includes Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Space, almost all of which are available on iOS, Android, Chrome, Blackberry, PSP, PC, the Mac App Store and many, many other platforms.
Rovio boasted that the franchise racked up a staggering 648 million downloads in 2011 alone, an effect of its spread across new platforms. The recently released Angry Birds Space garnered 50 million downloads in just 35 days, making it the fastest-growing mobile game ever.
An announcement video from Rovio promises, "more amazing things coming soon." We can't wait to see how long it takes for them to hit the trillions.
Update: You might have recognized the kid at the end of this Rovio trailer. 148Apps did, noting that it's Casey of Casey's Contraptions. The Rube Goldburgian puzzle game has already been released on iOS, but it seems we'll be seeing more from the franchise thanks to Rovio. Noel Llopis, the creator of Casey's Contraptions, tweeted the following shortly after the trailer was released: "Before rumors start flying, Rovio is a perfect gentleman. Not a Zynga at all. Don't worry, all is well :-)"
