Assassin's Creed: Utopia will bring "a true Assassin's Creed experience" to iOS and Android devices.

Assassin's Creed: Utopia, a series-themed social game, is in the works for iOS and Android platforms through Japanese social networking service GREE.

Ubisoft producer Andreane Meunier told PocketGamer Utopia involves "building your own Assassin's Creed utopian colonial city." The narrative takes place at the close of the 16th century and will focus on European immigrants colonizing the New World. Abstergo Industries, a corporation that serves as a front for the Templars in the world of Assassin's Creed, is creating a program called "Utopia" that focuses on rebuilding past eras.

While the game is not connected to any one Assassin's Creed title, Meunier said the mobile title will provide "a true Assassin's Creed experience" and will "lead into the AC3 narrative, since it's a kind of pre-era to the Assassin's Creed 3 era."

Utopia is being developed in collaboration with GREE, giving the latest piece in the Assassin's Creed canon a socially-driven slant and heavy focus on its narrative. Meunier told Eurogamer, "We actually have a lot of people who are mostly into the narrative that have read the novels and things like that.

"We do feel like the product we're offering actually answers a need that the community has expressed," Meunier said.

Ubisoft announced in February an Assassin's Creed title that would release exclusively on the GREE portal. At the time the company teased a December release for Japan. There is no word yet on whether the game will come to North America or Europe.
