Team TANG Thai from Thailand and the Drexel Dragons from the USA won this year's Imagine Cup game design competition, with Thailand taking out the Xbox/Windows category with its game Verdant Fantasy and the USA winning the mobile category with Math Dash.
Both games were up against nine others in their respective categories. In the Xbox/Windows category, Brazil's The Doers came in second place and Belgium's team Hotfix came in third. In the mobile category, France's team Ecosia was second and Hungary's Turtle Games came in third. All the finalists can be viewed here.
All teams in the Microsoft-sponsored Imagine Cup are university students from around the world. Students were tasked with using technology to create solutions to world problems. In the game design category, students were challenged with making video games that were entertaining and also illustrated the Imagine Cup 2012 theme of "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems".
Our interview with Microsoft's vice president of the developer division, S. Somasegar, where he talks about the importance of the Imagine Cup to Microsoft can be viewed here.
