Angry Birds developer Rovio's next project, Amazing Alex, will launch on the iTunes App Store and Google Play on July 12th, the company announced today.
Amazing Alex offers physics-based puzzle levels in the vein of Angry Birds. But instead of irate birds in slingshots, finger swipes will activate sports-themed Rube Goldbergian setups in Alex's world. That gameplay comes from developers Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut, who created the Casey's Contraptions IP that Rovio recently acquired. The game will also allow players to create their own levels and share them with others.
Rovio just released a debut trailer for the game, which you can watch below. The footage features the titular hero, a blond-haired boy who looks to be about 10, putting on a record of a baseball game and hitting a ball through his bedroom window.
For now, Amazing Alex will be available on iOS and Android, but Rovio is promising announcements for other platforms in the future.
