A job listing for a multiplayer programmer at Polish developer CD Projekt Red doesn't necessarily mean the studio's next games will include multiplayer modes, said the company's head of marketing today.
The listing says that CD Projekt is hiring a multiplayer programmer for two upcoming games: an unnamed "RPG in a dark fantasy world," presumably the next game in the Witcher series, and the recently announced RPG based on the pen-and-paper game Cyberpunk 2020.
Speaking to Eurogamer, marketing director Michal Platkow-Gilewski explained that CD Projekt is looking for someone to help "evaluate our concepts and ideas" and "adapt [CD Projekt] to the new tasks and [a] different way of thinking where necessary," when it comes to online multiplayer gameplay. Another important duty would be to "prepare our engine for [the] challenges of upcoming online component[s] of our future games." According to Platkow-Gilewski, the job listing "should be named Multiplayer/Online Programmer" instead of "Multiplayer Programmer."
"At this stage of our games' development," said Platkow-Gilewski, "we want to explore all possible directions, check what would be cool, what's feasible and — always the most important for us — what suits our games the best."
