Blip Festival, a popular showcase of global chip tune music, will go on indefinite hiatus after its Tokyo show in October this year.

The festival began seven years ago in New York City's Financial District and has since been held 11 times across four continents. Their final show will run for two days on October 20th-21st at Koenji High in Koenji South, Suginami Ward in Tokyo, Japan.

"When we invaded an old bank in NYC's financial district back in 2006 to throw the first Blip Festival there was no way we could have predicted the way that it would grow over the years," the festival organizers wrote on the festival's event page.

"All the while, the organizational team behind-the-scenes has remained a very small and hands-on crew. Running it all has been an immensely rewarding experience, but also incredibly demanding, and often monopolizing our energy and efforts at the expense of other 8bitpeoples projects. So after careful deliberation, we've decided that this October's Blip Festival Tokyo 2012 will be the last installment of the Blip Festival event series for the foreseeable future.

"A special thanks to Christian Villum, David Adams, Kristy Dossor & Eugene Davoren-Britton -- without whom, the overseas editions of Blip Festival would not have been possible.

"To all the people that have shown Blip Festival so much love over the years, we thank you. We hope that you'll come join us for one last hurrah in Tokyo, and that you'll find our other future endeavors worthy of the same enthusiastic support."

Blip Festival's final event for the foreseeable future will feature performances by Aliceffekt, Blasterhead, Chibi-Tech, Cow'p, and many more to be announced.
