Riot Games reveals 100th playable Champion character.
Riot Games has unveiled Jayce, the Defender of Tomorrow, the 100th playable Champion for its multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends.
Described as a scientific genius, Jayce is designed for both melee and ranged combat using his mercury hammer weapon which can be transformed into a lightning bolt-shooting ranged cannon.
"This brazen, well-equipped man for all seasons sports hi-tech armor and wields the skull-crushing Mercury Hammer that also transforms into the Mercury Cannon. Whether you want to get up close and personal to punish enemies with a gigantic blunt instrument or shake things up by peppering opponents with energy blasts from a distance, Jayce has the skills it takes to deliver."
As detailed in an video breakdown of the new character as created by State of the League, Jayce can emit a lightning field that damages opposing players within the area, as well as knockback and stun users using the mercury hammer.
In addition, Jayce can create an acceleration gate that increases the movement speed of himself and teammates when passed through. Shooing a bolt from the mercury cannon through the gate will also speed it up and boost its damage.
Leage of Legends is a free-to-play PC title which features purchasable playable champions, as well as a rotating set of 10 free champions. The game is currently in the midst of its Season Two competitive season and is said to be a direct competitor of StarCraft in Korea's eSports scene.
