Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld Inhabitants' classic PlayStation platformer, is getting a from-the-ground-up HD remake from developer Just Add Water, and the first screenshot is now available.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is getting a from-the-ground-up HD remake from developer Just Add Water, and the first screenshot hit in advance of the game's upcoming premiere at Eurogamer Expo 2012.
According to Oddworld Inhabitants, who posted the image on their Facebook page, the screenshot (full resolution here) comes from a very early version of the game. "This isn't even pre-alpha," they wrote. Even so, Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water will give the game its public debut at Eurogamer Expo, which takes place from September 27th–30th at Earls Court in London, during a panel starting at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 30th. Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning will discuss the history of the franchise, and Just Add Water will present the HD remake to those in attendance.
The developers are still seeking a good name for the remake — for now, they're calling it "Abe HD" — and are asking fans to help out. "We've considered Abe's Oddysee HD," they wrote, "but that makes it sound like we've injected bigger pictures into the original engine." Today is the deadline for submissions, so send in your suggestion here.
Whatever the name, the 2.5D high-definition title is scheduled for release in 2013.
