Sniper Elite and Alien vs Predator developer Rebellion has filed a lawsuit against Stardock Entertainment and Ironclad Games over the release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, which it claims violates the studio's trademark.
Rebellion claims that the use of the word "Rebellion" in Sins of a Solar Empire's subtitle could be confusing for both the public and the press and it takes issue with the Stardock game being referred to as "Rebellion" in a number of promotion materials, reviews, and videos.
The studio believes that the confusion creates "unfair competition" between Rebellion and the Sins of a Solar Empire developers.
Stardock was revealed to have entered into its own legal battle this week against a former employee who it claims destroyed its marketing materials before resigning without notice. The same employee had been tied up in a personal legal dispute with Stardock CEO, Brad Wardell until April this year, although the precise nature of the case is unknown.
