Dead Space 3 expands on the workbench from the franchise's previous two entries with a brand-new, deep crafting system, and Visceral Games detailed the setup in a new developer diary.
The weapon crafting system expands on the workbench from the franchise's previous two entries. Isaac Clarke now has the ability to not only modify existing weapons, but build his own crazy contraptions from scratch. Want to take a blade from a circular saw and put it on a Plasma Cutter? It's all up to you. Feel like you could use a Pulse Rifle with a flamethrower attachment? Scrounge up the credits to pay for the parts, and go for it.
Visceral will also accommodate players who don't feel the need to tinker: the crafting system includes blueprints for a wide variety of creative weapons. Choose one for a baseline weapon that you can then tweak. Blueprints can be shared, so both you and your co-op partner can have the same devastating gun.
Dead Space 3 is due out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 5th, 2013. Check out the developer diary along with some new screenshots from Gamescom.
