Command & Conquer: Generals 2 will ditch single-player mode in favor of co-operative and competitive play, according to BioWare Victory's general manager, John Van Caneghem.
Speaking to PC Gamer, Caneghem confirmed that Generals 2 will ship without a single-player mode and focus on co-operative and competitive skirmishes instead.
Carneghem said that the studio "really want[s] to get back to the roots of what made Command and Conquer great". The game will be a dedicated online experience and the development team will add additional modes based on player feedback.
"As a live service I think the exciting part is you can try things," he said. "You can see what the community wants, you can give it a shot, you can put it up for a weekend and see how it goes, develop towards what the fans like."
Carneghem didn't rule out the possibility of a story mode being introduced at a later date, but he said it is not something that has been announced.
He also teased that e-sports elements will be integrated into the game but did not share specific features or plans.
