World of Warcraft's 5.0.4 patch was released today, bringing with it a slew of changes and updates ranging from a new looting mechanic to the ability to play with players from other realms.
Among the changes implemented include the introduction of Area of Effect (AOE) looting, which expands the loot window – so if a player kills a group of enemies in close proximity, when they loot one corpse, the loot window will include items from all of the nearby corpses for which the player has loot rights.
Cross-realm zones allow players to form a group with other players from a select pool of realms, allowing them to seamlessly play together. All classes have also been updated with a new talent system, improved abilities, and many old talents have been converted to specialization abilities.
The patch also removes the cap for daily quests and there is no longer a display count of daily quests completed.
In addition to this there are cosmetic changes such as an updated user interface with new character creation screens and a new UI for mounts and pets, and vendors now offter item filtering.
