New games are in development at each of THQ's four internal studios, president Jason Rubin announced today.

New games are in development at each of THQ's four internal studios, president Jason Rubin announced today.

THQ currently owns Relic Entertainment in Vancouver; Vigil Games in Austin; Volition, Inc. in Champaign, Illinois; and THQ Studio Montreal. The company closed its San Diego studio in June after selling its license for UFC games to Electronic Arts.

"THQ has talented studios, strong intellectual property, and is now nimble enough to navigate the complexities and take advantage of a marketplace in transition," said Rubin during an investor-relations call following the release of the company's second-quarter financial report. "Beyond our announced titles, in the last 60 days, all four of our internal studios began working on new titles that represent the type of product that we believe will make THQ successful in the future."

These four games exist in addition to titles that are known to be in development at THQ's internal studios:

  • Relic Entertainment is currently working on Company of Heroes 2, which is set to launch in the first quarter of 2013
  • Saints Row: Enter the Dominatrix, which was originally planned as a standalone expansion to last year's Saints Row: The Third but has since been spun off into a full-fledged sequel scheduled for release in 2013, is in development at Volition
  • An unannounced project led by former Assassin's Creed creative director Patrice Desilets is in progress at THQ Montreal
  • Vigil is building Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium, which THQ "refocused" in March from a massively multiplayer online game to a single-player title with a multiplayer component

Outside of THQ's wholly owned studios, Rubin also confirmed that the company is still publishing the unannounced first-person shooter that Left 4 Dead creator Turtle Rock Studios is making, as well as Homefront 2, which is in development at Crytek UK.
