David Goldfarb, who previously served as lead designer on Battlefield 3 at EA DICE, has joined the Stockholm office of Syndicate developer Starbreeze Studios, according to Develop.
Starbreeze, whose headquarters is in Uppsala, Sweden, opened its Stockholm subsidiary after acquiring Payday: The Heist developer Overkill Software in June.
"I talked to a lot of places but I felt the best fit for me was Starbreeze and Overkill because they have a really interesting history and a lot of games I really like," Goldfarb told Develop. Other games in Starbreeze's catalog include the Chronicles of RIddick series and The Darkness.
Goldfarb left EA DICE in July. He will work as game director along with studio head Ulf Andersson on the recently revealed Payday 2, as well as an unannounced game. One of the more appealing elements of joining Starbreeze, according to Goldfarb, is the opportunity to work on smaller projects. "I've worked on these huge games, and that was great, but I really wanted to work on smaller, tighter, and more intimate projects that are more gameplay-driven, and I saw the opportunity to do that [at Starbreeze]," he said.
Andersson added, "I'm really looking forward to this to see if we can make something really cool together."
