Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Fan interest in another TimeSplitters game is "not high enough yet" for Crytek to consider making one, said the company's chief executive, Cevat Yerli, in an interview with VG247.

Fan interest in another TimeSplitters game is "not high enough yet" for Crytek to consider making one, said the company's chief executive, Cevat Yerli, in an interview with VG247.

Yerli explained that he put out some feelers to gauge the size of the TimeSplitters community, and found that "while the volume of responses was quite high, we feel it's not high enough yet." However, Yerli's survey "did indeed trigger a deeper evaluation of what we do with TimeSplitters," and he hinted at those plans, saying Crytek "might have some surprises coming soon."

This comes after Yerli told CVG at E3 2012 that Crytek wasn't sure how big the potential audience would be for TimeSplitters 4. "I wish we were working on it," he said then, but asserted that "nobody would accept this apart from some fans" and that publishers wouldn't be interested in funding a disc-based release — a fact confirmed in May by Steve Ellis, co-founder of original TimeSplitters developer Free Radical (now known as Crytek UK). "We think even on CryEngine and with Crytek behind it there would be fundamental issues with the concept," Yerli explained.

Instead, Yerli highlighted the multiplayer element of TimeSplitters, and proposed a TimeSplitters game on GFACE, Crytek's social platform for free-to-play titles.
