The developers behind Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and the Guitar Hero series have formed their own mobile studio, UpUpStart, and turned to Kickstarter to fund an iOS and Android game called Epic Skater.
The side-scrolling skateboarding game is set in a variety of real locations across the globe and allows players to learn new tricks as they skate through cities, earn experience and level up.
"Our goal is to keep complete control of our vision in order to bring everyone the purest experience possible," UpUpStar writes on their Kickstarter page.
"Finding a publisher that doesn't want to be involved in the game's direction or design is difficult, and we want to be sure there is a direct line of communication between us and the fans. Our team has been working full time at our day jobs while dedicating our free nights and weekends to Epic Skater. If we meet our goal, we can dedicate 100% of our time and efforts to the project, and still continue to pay our bills until release. Our release date will also be much, much sooner!"
The game has a funding goal of $50,000. At the time of writing, the game has reached $2,544 with 29 days to go.
