The Hulu Plus app for PlayStation 3 received an interface overhaul last night, courtesy of the app's first major update since its launch in November 2010.

The update makes Hulu Plus a more visual experience, with bigger images highlighting content that's new or that you watch frequently. Movies and TV shows are now organized in a "tray"-like setup, similar to the PS3 Netflix app, that lets you scroll through content from left to right in vertically arrayed categories. In addition, the playback interface and controls are now somewhat simplified. These changes bring the PS3 app in line with the updates to the web interface that Hulu rolled out last month.

Searches will now populate content just below the search bar, an important improvement. But we're less happy to see the Hulu Plus app's new single-line virtual keyboard, which resembles the keyboards on the Xbox 360's Netflix and YouTube apps — it slows down text entry. While the changes arrived on Hulu's website a few weeks ago, the PlayStation 3 app is the first one to receive the interface update, and the company is looking for feedback from PS3 users.

Hulu Plus is available for $7.99 per month.
