Capcom's corporate officer Christian Svensson has reminded Mega Man fans that a new game has not been promised to coincide with the game's 25th anniversary next year, and so expectations should be kept in check.
Posting in the official Capcom forums, Svensson wrote:
"In December 'some but not all' plans for the coming year of celebrations will be shared. There are many moving parts and not everything will be done and final come December. No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check."
When asked by forum users why Capcom was being so hush-hush about details pertaining to the Mega Man anniversary, Svensson responded:
"In the past, we've tried to be extremely open about MM. Unfortunately for a variety of reasons (not the fans' fault, twas ours) that didn't work out terribly well. Being open about things before we're absolutely positive of the plans getting executed given the heightened sensitivity about the topic is the order of the day at this point.
Plans changed once Universe and Legends were halted. That's the other issue ... plans change ALL the time. So while we have things planned out, they move, they shift and unfortunately, sometimes they get cancelled as was the case with Legends and Universe.
So sharing plans, that aren't as firm as concrete in the current environment doesn't strike anyone as a good idea. Could you imagine the blow up if we announced another MM title and cancelled it? I can and I don't think anyone would appreciate it."
Details about Mega Man's 25th anniversary celebration are expected to be released this December. A Mega Man iOS game, Mega Man Xover, was announced last month with a planned Fall release.
Thanks Brian!
