The Last Express, Jordan Mechner's critically acclaimed 1997 adventure game, will be available on iOS this Thursday, September 27th.

The game's launch trailer, embedded below, confirmed the release date.

Mechner, the writer, designer, and director of The Last Express, originally announced an iOS release of the game back in March. DotEmu, a French developer and digital distribution service, developed the port of the 15-year-old adventure classic, which offers "the complete, original PC game" with iOS-specific enhancements. DotEmu also did the 20th anniversary iOS port of Eric Chahi's Out of This World last year.

The Last Express takes place on the Orient Express in 1914 — specifically, during the train's final Paris-to-Istanbul trip before the outbreak of World War I forced service to be suspended. Robert Cath, an American doctor wanted for murder, is the player character; he hops on the train after being contacted by Tyler Whitney, an old friend. A tale full of betrayal, romance, conspiracies, and international intrigue ensues. Mechner's Smoking Car Productions developed the game, which was originally published by Broderbund Software.

The original PC version of The Last Express is currently available on DotEmu and Good Old Games for $5.99. No price for the iOS version was announced.
