Resident Evil 6 was on sale in Poland last week, one month before its release date, Capcom confirmed today.
Polish site NeoGo was able to purchase a German retail copy of the PlayStation 3 version of the game in the city of Poznan. Resident Evil 6 is due out on October 2nd on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in North America, Europe, and Australia, and on October 4th in Japan.
In a statement to Polygon, Capcom said it was investigating the situation. At this time, Capcom said, "It would appear this unfortunate incident is limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK [Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, the country's video game ratings board] PlayStation 3 version of the game."
At least one intrepid buyer put the game on eBay, saying they "bought the game legally from [a] store" on Thursday. The opening bid is set for 2,000 zlotys — just over $600.
We've reached out to Capcom for more details, and will update this story with any information we receive.
