The International, Valve's annual Dota 2 eSports tournament, was held during PAX Prime 2012 in Seattle over the weekend, with teams battling over $1.6 million in cash payouts.
Chinese team Invictus Gaming defeated 2011 winner Natus Vincere three games to one in the best-of-five championship series to take home a $1 million purse. The runner-up, the Ukrainian squad known as NaVi, received $250,000 for its efforts.
Third place and a $150,000 prize went to LGD-Gaming out of China. Another Chinese team, DK, won fourth-place honors and $80,000. The fifth- and sixth-place finishers, Team Zenith from Singapore and Chinese crew EHOME, respectively, each received $35,000. The last two teams to finish in the money — TongFu from China in 7th, and Malaysian team Orange E-Sports in 8th — each left Seattle $25,000 richer.
Full video replays of all four grand final matches will soon be available on the tournament website here.
Dota 2 is scheduled for a free-to-play release later this year. Valve is currently running an open beta, with free sign-ups for beta invites or a $30 purchase for immediate access.
