The Killzone Trilogy will bundle together the Killzone franchise's three console games on October 23rd for $39.99, Sony announced today.
The original Killzone, which launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, has been given a 720p high-definition makeover for the trilogy, and it now has Trophies, too. Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 round out the package. The bundle also includes the three map packs that Guerrilla released after launch for each of the PS3 titles:
Killzone 2 Map Pack Bundle
- Steel & Titanium Map Pack
- Flash & Thunder Map Pack
- Napalm & Cordite Map Pack
Killzone 3 Map Pack Bundle
- Steel Rain Map Pack
- Retro Map Pack
- From The Ashes Map Pack
Previous entries in Sony's "PlayStation Collections" line include the God of War Saga and Infamous Collection. Unlike the God of War Saga, the Killzone Trilogy does not include the series' PSP title, Killzone: Liberation. Watch the trailer for the Killzone Trilogy below.
Update: Guerrilla Games has confirmed that the original Killzone, which appears in the Trilogy on its own disc, will be sold separately on the PlayStation Store.
According to the studio's technical director, Michiel van der Leeuw, Guerrilla updated the game's controls "to be more in line with the rest of the series" and to take advantage of the PlayStation 3 gamepad. The developers also "re-compressed [Killzone's audio] at higher quality" for the Trilogy, according to van der Leeuw. In addition, said van der Leeuw, the Trilogy version of Killzone will include the original game's offline, split-screen multiplayer mode with AI bots.
Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 are the same in the Trilogy as their original PS3 releases, so only Killzone 3 features support for 3D and PlayStation Move.
