Update (July 18, 2022): Note that the event guide below is for the Golden Apple Archipelago from patch 1.6, not 2.8, so this information isn’t relevant anymore. If you’re here, you may be looking for a new Broken Isle puzzle that includes Pyro pillars.

Genshin Impact’s Golden Apple Archipelago has a special puzzle, which you can find on Broken Isle. Our Genshin Impact guide will detail how to solve the rock puzzle (which isn’t a world quest) and get your rewards.

The Golden Apple Archipelago is a limited time area for patch 1.6, and it won’t be available after July 20, according to an in-game countdown. Make sure you complete your world quests and grab your loot before then.

The mural on Broken Isle explains how to solve the puzzle. There are five small ponds around Broken Isle, and you have to fill them with the right amounts of water as they correspond to the mural. We’ve marked the five ponds on the map below.

Each pond has three lines scratched onto a nearby rock formation, so you can tell how much water is in it. The first line means it’s filled a little bit, the middle line means it’s halfway full, and the top line means its full.

Each pond has rock pedals that adjust the water levels. The left pedal drains the water, and the right pedal makes the water rise. Stand on the rock to activate it.

Northeastern pond — set to water level 1

This pond will actually be empty when you approach it. There’s a breakable rock formation above it, higher on the cliff. Smash it with a claymore user to fill the pool with water.

Western pond — set to water level 3

This pond will be empty, and you’ll need to break the nearby Hydro stone to fill it.

Entering the pillar code and getting your reward

After you set the ponds, head to the northern part of the central island where five stone pillars are. There are five more rock pedals here. Stand on them in the order indicated by the pillars.

Step on them in this order:

  1. The central rock
  2. The middle left rock
  3. The top right rock
  4. The top left rock
  5. The middle right rock

After you do this, a cutscene will play, and your treasure will spawn, rewarding you with all sorts of goodies, like Mora and Primogems.

If you are pressing the buttons in the right order but nothing is happening, then go back and make sure the pools are filled at the correct amounts.
