You can’t access God of War’s Svartalfheim Tower at the beginning of the game, so this guide contains details about events that happen several hours into your journey through the Lake of Nine. Beneath the spoiler image below, we’ll show you how to access the tower.

How to access Svartalfheim Tower
Svartalfheim Tower is unavailable until the low water phase in the Lake of Nine, which begins after the Journey “A New Destination.”
Get in your canoe and paddle to the northwest of the Lake of Nine. (See the first image in the gallery above for the exact location.)
On your first trip, you can’t access Svartalfheim Tower through its dock shown above because the crank that controls the lift is locked. Instead pass the dock, keeping it on your left. Paddle through the runes and enter the cave on your left. Dock at the beach there.
Climb the wall on the beach. Turn left when you get to the top and “open” a wooden chest for some hacksilver. Open the giant doors, and you’ll arrive at Svartalfheim Tower.
On the top of the tower, you’ll find a Mystic Gateway and a Realm Tear. Have Atreus read the text on the braziers to ignite them.
Interact with the Realm Tear to fight a Traveler Champion, a notably difficult version of a notably difficult God of War enemy. See the gallery above for some tips.
Before you leave, make sure to interact with the crank that controls the lift. Now you’ll be able to access Svartalfheim Tower directly from the Lake of Nine.
