Genshin Impact guide: How to make more Wishes

Here’s how to get more gacha pulls

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

In Genshin Impact, the best way to get new weapons and characters is via the Wish system. If you’re familiar with gachapon games, you should have a solid grip on what a Wish is. If you’re new, think of them as a loot box: most of the time it’s filled with garbage, and if you want something good, you’ll need a lot of Wishes.

Wishing is important for your progression. Thankfully, there are a few in-game ways to get more Wishes. Here are the different Wish currencies and how to farm them.

Primogems

Primogems are going to be your best source of Wishes in Genshin Impact — at least past your first few Wishes, which the game basically gives you for free.

The good news about Primogems is you get them from almost everything:

  • Quests
  • Achievements
  • Daily Commissions (note: you can join your friends games every day to help them do theirs)
  • Unlocking teleport points in the world
  • The Abyss
  • Shrines
  • Completing dungeons for the first time
  • High-level chests

The bad news is that you need a lot of them if you want to make a lot of Wishes.

Each single Wish costs 160 Primogems, and a group of 10 Wishes costs 1600 Primogems (we recommend only doing one pull at a time). For reference, you’ll usually get 2-5 when opening a chest.

All of the activities mentioned above give Primogems, and the more you play the more you’ll get. There isn’t really a “get rich quick” scheme for Primogems unless you want to spend really money. If you do your Daily Commission and explore a little every day, you should be able to get at least one Wish during your play session.

Note that you can buy Genesis Crystals for real money, which you can trade 1:1 for Primogems.

Acquaint and Intertwined Fates

The actual currencies you’ll need to make Wishes are called Fates. You can buy them with Primogems — which is how you’ll get them most of the time — but you can also get them as rewards from leveling up.

There are two kinds of Fates in the game: Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates. You’ll use the Intertwined Fates to unlock temporary Wish Banners, like Ballad in Goblets. And you’ll use the Acquaint Fates to unlock permanent banners like the Wanderlust Invocation.

While you’ll earn a few of each Fate type early in the game, you will get very few from endgame rewards.

You can visit the in-game shop to buy five Fates each month. But if you want more Wishes, you need to farm Primogems.
