Call of Duty: Warzone guide: Know Your History quest and Bay of Pigs blueprint

Complete the teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to get some new goodies in Warzone

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

On Aug. 26, Infinity Ward and Activision launched a new mission inside of Warzone: Know Your History. The quest is effectively a playable teaser promoting Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, coming Nov. 13. But the mission itself offers some unique goodies, like a new calling card, a trinket for your weapon, and the new Bay of Pigs blueprint.

Know Your History requires you to complete four Steps to Freedom. While the goal is the same each time, the locations are completely random. You can complete this mission solo or in a squad. Note that you only have a little over 15 minutes.

The Know Your History quest is a limited time event, meaning it’s not always available in-game.

Players can dive in to pick up the Bay of Pigs blueprint during the following times:

  • 7-8 p.m. ET on Aug. 26
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 27
  • 7-8 p.m. ET on Aug. 28
  • 11 a.m-1 p.m. ET and 8-10 p.m ET on Aug. 29

Here’s how to complete the Know Your History quest.

Collect the map codes

When you first land, you need to loot five map codes to proceed. You can get these codes by killing enemies or by looting chests. Don’t worry about dying, as you can respawn in the Know Your History quest.

Once you find all five codes, you can move on to the next step. You’ll also earn the All the Guns emblem.

Secure the key

The next step of the quest will offer you a specific key location. Follow the quest objective across the map and pick up the key once you get there. Some other players will go to different locations, so you don’t have to worry too much about running into enemies.

You’ll unlock the Ascension calling card once you pick up the key. Move on to the next step.

Crack the map code

When you enter your search area, scavenge around for a gold chest

Once you have the key, a golden circle will appear on your map. You need to search boxes inside this circle until you find the cipher. Travel to the circle and start looting, specifically looking for glowing, yellow crates.

When you find the cipher, you’ll unlock the Test Pattern charm. Move on to the final step.

Wield the weapon

Mark your grid on the map and search inside for Woods

This is the most cryptic step in the bunch, but it’s still pretty easy. When your objective changes, you’ll get some map coordinates, seen on the left side of your screen.

Open your map and look at the grid. Follow the letters on top and the numbers on the left. Imagine drawing a line down from your letter and right from your number. Your grid should be where the imaginary line for your letter and number intersect. For example, C2 would be in the top left part of the map, with H8 in the bottom right. Mark your grid and travel there.

Talk to Woods and he’ll give you the Bay of Pigs marksman rifle blueprint

Once you reach your destination, you need to search your entire grid. These grids are pretty big, so be diligent. You’re looking for an NPC: Woods from the Black Ops games. When you find him, approach him and interact.

Woods will give you the Bay of Pigs, a new blueprint. When you finish this step, you’ll unlock the blueprint for your account. The rest of this mission is just a teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, you don’t need to do anything else. You’ll get another calling card and emblem for finishing the mission.
