The Last of Us collectible locations guide

In Polygon’s The Last of Us collectibles guides, we’ll show you the location of every collectible in every chapter.

Collectibles in The Last of Us come in five varieties: There are 85 artifacts, 30 Firefly pendants, 12 Training Manuals, 14 comics, and 5 tool level upgrades. Artifacts, Firefly pendants, and comics are just collectibles — in-game things that are just there to be found. The Training Manuals make your weapons and craftables better and stronger. The tool level upgrades unlock additional upgrades for your weapons at workbenches.

You can see how many collectibles you’ve found so far by looking in Bonuses > Statistics in your pause menu or The Last of Us > Bonuses > Statistics on the main menu. You can also see what you’ve collected by checking your inventory during the game. There’s no way to tell what collectibles are in which chapter (or what you’ve missed) from the menus, though.

We’ve broken our guides down by chapter and section, but you won’t see those names as you’re playing the game. You can find, select, and begin playing at any of these from the Chapters section of the main menu. We’ll explain where and when each section of each chapter begins and ends at the top of each section.

There is no map in The Last of Us. For every collectible in every chapter, we used photo mode to zoom out and give you some context surrounding the precise locations. Use the images below to orient yourself and the added arrows to help you navigate the last few feet.

Chapter 1 ‘The Quarantine Zone’

There are 8 artifacts and 3 Firefly pendants in “The Quarantine Zone.”

“The Quarantine Zone” has four sections: 20 Years Later, Beyond The Wall, The Slums, and The Cargo.

20 Years Later collectibles

This section begins after the opening credits roll and a much older Joel wakes up in his apartment, and ends when Joel and Tess enter the secret tunnel.

There are no collectibles in this section.

Beyond The Wall collectibles

The next section starts as Joel and Tess enter the secret tunnel, and ends when they pass through the door guarded by a child.

Boston Q.Z. Map and Military Pamphlet artifact location

After you’ve walked through the streets to the checkpoint, and followed Tess when that path doesn’t work out, you’ll head into an apartment building. You’ll move an entertainment center to take a hidden path through the wall. A little bit along the tunnel, you’ll automatically receive Boston Q.Z. Map and Military Pamphlet artifacts when you pick up your backpack, gun, and gas mask. (Just open your inventory to find them.)

David Michael Vigil Firefly pendant location

The Last of Us ‘The Quarantine Zone’ collectibles locations guide — David Michael Vigil Firefly pendant collectible location.

Outside of the pizza shop and across the square, you’ll find and climb a ladder into an apartment. Walk past the pool table, past the kitchen (where you’ll find some supplies), and into a room with two bunk beds and two mattresses on the floor. The David Michael Vigil Firefly pendant is on the only table in the room.

Note To Bomber artifact location

Downstairs, make your way through the spores, past the infected, and up the stairs to clean air. At the top of the stairs, before leaving the building, turn left and open the door. The Note To Bomber artifact (note) is on a table inside the room.

Ben Glueck Firefly pendant location

Outside that building, you’ll cross a swampy courtyard, and duck into another building. Inside, you’ll have to get a plank for Tess. Back outside, follow her until you have to crouch under the broken metal walkway. Stop on the other side, and the Ben Glueck Firefly pendant is hanging from a branch on the tree in front of you. Shoot it down.

The Slums collectibles

The Slums section begins as Joel and Tess enter the alley (after bribing a child), and ends after they confront Robert on the docks.

Drafting Notice artifact location

To exit the alley, walk through the bus, and under the blue tarps. Head straight instead of following Tess to the right. The Drafting Notice artifact is on the ground on your left next to a table with two yellow canisters beneath it.

Don’t leave yet. The next artifact is only a few feet away.

Wanted Poster artifact location

Stand facing the table where you found the previous artifact, and look to your right at the green shipping container next to the fence. The Wanted Poster artifact is glowing for your attention.

Warehouse Key artifact location

Follow Tess through some alleys and cutscenes. You’ll have a quick shootout with some of Robert’s men. Duck through the hole in the chain link fence, and kill the guys in the warehouse. One will drop the Warehouse Key artifact, which you’ll need to progress.

Shipping Manifest artifact location

A bit later, use the chain to open the garage(-like) door out of the warehouse, and you’ll exit into a cutscene in which you spot Robert.

As soon as you gain control behind cover, look to your right for two blue square containers (and five oil drums between them). The Shipping Manifest artifact is behind the one farther away — on the ground next to the railing.

Don’t leave the area yet. You’re not far away from the next artifact, and we’ll find it starting from there.

Docks Note artifact location

Continue cutting to the right across the waterfront to the far right side of the warehouse. Toward the back, there’s a blue dumpster. The Docks Note artifact is to the right of that dumpster.

The Cargo collectibles

The last section in this chapter starts after you chase Robert out of the office on the docks and ends when Joel and Ellie reach the apartment.

Philip Liu Firefly pendant location

After a cutscene, you’ll do some running, climbing, and cross a rooftop to get into a building. Through the blue sliding door, you’ll continue through the building and out into a heavily guarded area under a bridge. Keep stealthing your way through the guards until you reach another cutscene (where you meet Ellie).

When you get control on the other side of that cutscene, look for a corpse across the square and a little to the left — he’s next to a parking meter. You’ll find the Philip Liu Firefly pendant next to him.

Chapter 2 ‘The Outskirts’

There are 9 artifacts and 4 Firefly pendants in “The Outskirts.”

“The Outskirts” has four sections: Outside, Downtown, Museum, and The Capitol Building.

Outside collectibles

This chapter and section start with Joel waking up in the apartment, and follows our trio of heroes through the rain (and several drain pipes) as they avoid patrols. It ends after a cutscene in which Ellie and Tess discuss a vaccine.

Tess’ List artifact location

The Last of Us ‘The Outskirts’ collectibles locations guide — Tess’ List artifact location.

After a quick conversation with Tess right at the beginning of this section, turn around and head back into the room with the couch. The Tess’ List artifact note will be on the side table to the left of the couch.

Patrol Routes Map artifact location

In the next room, you’ll power up a generator and ride an elevator down. As soon as you come off the elevator, turn right and head to the wall to find the Patrol Routes Map artifact.

Downtown collectibles

This chapter starts after you escape through the storm drains, and ends when our trio climbs out of the subway.

Evacuation Leaflet artifact location

After the cutscene, you’ll start heading into downtown Boston. One of the first things you’ll have to do is climb up a collapsed bridge. At the top of that ramp, the Evacuation Leaflet artifact is at the base of the traffic light ahead of you and a little to the right.

Joseph Lenz Firefly pendant location

When you reach the collapsed section of downtown, you’ll snake through the ruins to the right. On the other side, you’ll see a sign for “THE OL STONE BUIL IN.” Continue along the outside of the building on the right. You’ll see a few trees in planters. The Joseph Lenz Firefly pendant is in the farthest (and greenest) tree.

Field Ops Log artifact location

Head into the “OL STONE” building, and continue into the hallways. Take the stairs up. On the first landing, you’ll find a body. The Field Ops Log artifact is on the ground right next to him.

Firefly Map artifact location

Continue through the tilted building. You’ll have a couple encounters with infected people and meet your first clickers, but there are no collectibles inside the building. When you reach the basement, you’ll find a Firefly corpse and pick up a Molotov cocktail.

From that corpse, look to your right for some stairs. The Firefly Map artifact is up those stairs near a corpse on the right side.

Note to Derek artifact location [Safe code]

Just past where you pick up the Firefly Map, you’ll run into an area full of clickers. Off to the left, there’s a shop to duck into. Inside, look to the right, and you’ll find the Note to Derek artifact inside a drawer by the cash register.

This note has a safe code on it. The safe is on the opposite side of the basement — in the bookstore along the right wall from where you entered.

Museum collectibles

This section starts after you climb out of the subway under the “OL STONE” building, and ends when you reach the museum’s roof.

Medical Pamphlet artifact location

Up on street level, you’ll need to handle some infected and drag a dumpster to a semi trailer. When you climb over the trailer, turn around, and check inside for the Medical Pamphlet artifact.

Michael Kiper Firefly pendant location

Shortly after that, you’ll duck into the museum’s loading dock and find a workbench. In the next room, you’ll climb up a collapsed floor. As you’re climbing up that ramp, jump up to the narrow ledge on your left. Shuffle back to the display case behind you to find the Michael Kiper Firefly pendant.

The Capitol Building collectibles

The final section of this chapter starts after you leave the museum roof, and ends when Joel and Ellie swim out of the subway tunnel.

Firefly Orders artifact location

As soon as the cutscene as you approach the capitol ends, you’ll head down some stairs. At the bottom, turn around to your right, and you’ll find the Firefly Orders artifact on the ground next to a corpse.

Melinda Davidson Firefly pendant location

After you climb into the open street (with all the cars), you’ll descend to a flooded area. Look for the stone gazebo (rotunda?) on the left. The Melinda Davidson Firefly pendant is in the water near a pillar opposite where you’ll enter. You won’t be able to see it, though, so watch for the Firefly prompt.

Smuggler’s Note artifact location

After you escape the Capitol Building, you’ll head across the street and down some stairs into a spore-filled subway station. Keep moving through the station and into the deep water. After you pass the diving underwater section, you’ll surface in an open area and Ellie will rejoin you. She’ll find a flashlight where she shows up along the left side of the tunnel. Head over to her, and the Smuggler’s Note artifact will be at the top of the stairs.

Shiyao Jiang Firefly pendant location

From the Smuggler’s Note, head down the stairs and into the water. Surface to catch your breath, and then dive back down. Opposite the stairwell you entered through, there’s a room underwater here. Swim inside and to the left to find the Shiyao Jiang Firefly pendant on some shelves.

Chapter 3 ‘Bill’s Town’

There are 11 artifacts, 3 Firefly pendants, and 1 Training Manual in “Bill’s Town.”

“Bill’s Town” has four sections: The Woods, Safehouse, Graveyard, and High School Escape.

The Woods collectibles

The first section of this chapter begins as Joel and Ellie walk through the titular woods, and it extends as you explore the town, meet Bill, and make your escape from the zombie horde.

Pills Note artifact location

The Last of Us ‘Bill’s Town’ collectibles locations guide — Pills Note artifact location.

From the start of the chapter, head through the woods generally forward and uphill — toward the water tower. After you plank across the roofs near the water tower, you’ll head down into town, and drop through a gap in a fence.

When you land, there’s a set of metal stairs on the left side of the building in front of you. Head through the door they lead to, and into the room on the left. The Pills Note is on the ground on the far side of the room.

Hui Wang Firefly pendant location

Back outside, you’ll boost Ellie over a fence to reach the street. (There’s a fenced-in garden to the left and behind you with some supplies.) Turn right, and head down the street until you reach the crashed RV. Use the cop car at the front to climb onto the RV’s roof. Head to the back to find the Hui Wang Firefly pendant.

Note to Bob artifact location

From the RV, look to the barricaded end of the street. The Note to Bob is stuck to the barricade’s razor wire.

This note has another safe code on it. The safe is back up the street a bit. Backtrack to the diner and the mandatory evacuation sign, and look for a rusty pickup on your left. The safe is right next to the truck.

Perimeter Note artifact location

From the RV (and the barricade), turn left and look for the record shop. Head behind the counter and into the back room for some supplies and the Perimeter Note.

Note to Rachel artifact location

Back outside, face the record shop. Head down the alley on the right. Duck under the tripwire trap. (There’s a shiv door and supply room to the left.) To the right, you’ll find some arrows sticking out of a corpse. Past that, there’s a ladder on the ground. Use the ladder to climb to the top of the box truck and pick up the bow. Use the plank to cross off the box truck. You’ll need to use the plank a few times to keep crossing the roofs. Use your new bow on the clicker, and then continue along until you run out of rooftops.

Back on street level, duck under the next tripwire, and take a left. Follow that wall until you come to a door (with something pounding it from the other side.) Open it, and head upstairs into the apartment’s kitchen. Kill the zombie, and collect the Note to Rachel on the table underneath where “Rachel ↓” is written on the wall.

Safehouse collectibles

Safehouse begins in the bar after you meet Bill and escape the zombies. It ends when you enter the church’s cellar.

Fences Note artifact location

As soon as you regain control of Joel inside the bar, turn around and look for the open door in the right corner. Head into that room, and you’ll find the Fences Note sitting on a coffee table to the left with some supplies.

Bill’s Map artifact location and Shiv: Sharpening Training Manual location

Back in the main room, you’ll find Bill’s Map on the table to your right just before the bar.

The Shiv: Sharpening Training Manual is on the other end of the bar near some ammo.

Hunters Note artifact location

When you leave the bar, you’ll close the door behind you, and head up some stairs. At the top, turn right and head into the open room at the end of the hall. The Hunters Note is sitting on a table at the far end of the room.

Alex Raymond Vincent Firefly pendant location

Follow Bill through the buildings, and kill the infected that appear among the cars as soon as you exit. Don’t leave the area. Off to the right side of this square, look for a rusted brown van along the sidewalk. The Alex Raymond Vincent Firefly pendant is hanging from the telephone pole in front of it. Shoot it down.

Graveyard collectibles

Graveyard begins in the basement of the church, leads through the graveyard and a residential neighborhood, and ends when you enter the high school.

Tools level 1 location

While in the church cellar, pick up everything that isn’t nailed down. Bill will call you over to show you his nail bombs. Head into the alcove directly ahead of that table to find your first tools level 1 — this will unlock new upgrades at the workbench nearby.

Bombs Note artifact location

After you’re done looting the church cellar, head up the stairs and into the church. Follow Bill toward the altar, and head into the room on the right. The Bombs Note is on a table against the wall to your left as you enter.

Peter Mrozik Firefly pendant location

After you dodge the clickers in the graveyard, you’ll exit into the alleys of a residential neighborhood. Off to the right and a little uphill, there’s a bluish-greenish house with a fenced-in back yard. Take out the infected or avoid them, and make your way into the house. The Peter Mrozik Firefly pendant is in the first floor laundry room (about halfway across the back wall of the house).

Boy’s Diary artifact location

After a few more yards and garages, Ellie will crawl through a doggie door. After that, you’ll make your way through a house filled with clickers, onto an RV, and through a treehouse. At that point, you’ll find yourself next to a house with an empty swimming pool.

Head upstairs in that house, and enter the door on your right into a child’s bedroom. The Boy’s Diary is sitting on a bench beneath a window.

High School Escape collectibles

High School Escape begins when you fight your way into the school and continues through the end of the chapter. It’ll be a while before you can find the last couple of collectibles.

Note From Frank artifact location

After fleeing the high school, you’ll fight your way into a house. After you discover Frank’s body (and watch a cutscene), but before you push the truck, head out of the garage and back into the house. From the garage door, keep going straight across the house, you’ll find a bedroom filled with supplies. The Note from Frank is on a table against the far right wall as you walk in.

Note From Frank (again) artifact location

After you find the Note from Frank collectible, return to the garage and talk to Bill. Joel will hand him the note, and Bill will crumple it up and throw it on the ground. Pick it up, and you’ll get the crumpled version of the same collectible.

Chapter 4 ‘Pittsburgh’

There are 17 artifacts, 3 Firefly pendants, 4 Training Manual, 4 comics, and 1 tool in “Pittsburgh.”

“Pittsburgh” has four sections: Alone and Forsaken, Hotel Lobby, Financial District, and Escape the City.

Alone and Forsaken collectibles

Alone and Forsaken starts with the shootout in Pittsburgh, and continues through a couple more fights with hunters, a huge bookstore, and a flooded street. This section ends once you reach the hotel.

Siphon Hose artifact location and Force Carrier comic location

You’ll get the Siphon Hose artifact and the Force Carrier comic from Bill during the cutscene between chapters.

Tools level 2 location

The Last of Us ‘Pittsburgh’ collectibles locations guide — Tools level 2 location.

After the shooting stops, loot the convenience shop and the mechanic across the street. You and Ellie will duck into a grisly garage. The tools level 2 is in a toolbox to your left.

Tourists Manifest artifact location

Inside that same gnarly garage, the Tourists Manifest is on a knocked over rack blocking the door along the right wall.

Health: Splinting Training Manual location

Take the stairs up from the garage, and head into the first door on your right. The Health: Splinting Training Manual is on the shelves on your left.

Ambush Map artifact location

Head through the door at the end of the hall outside the sleeping quarters. The Ambush Map is on the wall to your right (and there’s a workbench in here, too).

Termination Shock comic location

When you head outside, you’ll drop down onto a street. There’s a crashed bus off to your right. Climb onto the bus through the open door, and turn left. The Termination Shock comic will be on the floor.

Lost Hill Note artifact location

At the far end of that street, you’ll meet three more bad guys. After the fight, climb over the bus into the military checkpoint. Drop down, and climb over the sandbags on the right side. The Lost Hill Note is inside the guard booth.

Kazden Risk Firefly pendant location

Through the checkpoint, you’ll run into a lot of hunters. The fight will take you from the checkpoint into a huge bookstore on the right. The next five artifacts are all in this area. Once all the hunters are dealt with, head back into the main square. Face the bookstore, and make your way toward the gate along the left. There’s an alley that runs along the left side of the bookstore (there’re metal stairs up to the second floor here). The Kazden Risk Firefly pendant is at the back of the alley behind some shelves.

Traitors Flyer artifact location

Back in the main square, head to the front doors of the bookstore (they’re most of the way back toward the gate you came through, under a big green sign).

Facing the front doors, turn right. The Traitors Flyer is on a metal barricade wall.

Applicant Checklist artifact location

Walk through the front doors of the bookstore, and turn right. The Applicant Checklist is under the stairs in the corner.

Abandon Zone Note artifact location

From that staircase in the front right corner of the bookshop, continue along the right wall on the first floor. Straight back (past the Biographies sign on the ceiling), climb through the window into what looks like a break room. The Abandon Zone Note will be on your left.

Lost Areas Map artifact location

Head up to the second floor of the bookstore (there are stairs in the back right corner). Look for the cafe (also in the back right corner). Unlock the shiv door to the right of the counter. The Lost Areas Map and some supplies are inside.

Mother’s Letter artifact location

After you leave the bookstore, you’ll walk through some alleys until you spot a couple hunters moving a plank. From where you hide behind a taxi, look to your left. Open the shiv door marked with a red X. You’ll find the Mother’s Letter inside, along with a bunch of supplies.

Stash Note artifact location

Back on the street, head for the flooded area. There’s a box truck crashed into a(nother?) River Cafe along the left side. Swim through the truck into the cafe. Swim to the stairs at the back to climb up to the second floor. The Stash Note is on the far side off the floor on a wooden counter (next to a shiv).

Hotel Lobby collectibles

The Hotel Lobby section, unsurprisingly, starts as you enter the hotel lobby, and ends after Joel and Ellie escape the hotel.

Note to Staff artifact location and Shiv: Reinforcement Training Manual location

Inside the hotel lobby, you’ll use a ladder to climb up to the second floor (in the back left corner). At the top of the ladder, turn right, and shuffle across to the far side. The Note to Staff is in a suitcase by the elevators.

The safe code written on it is for the safe near the front desk. From where you picked it up, face the front of the hotel. The front desk is on the left in the front corner. Head behind the counter and into the attached room. The safe will be on your left. You’ll find the Shiv: Reinforcement Training Manual inside.

Hotel Keycard artifact location

A whole lot of hotel room looting and hunter strangling later, you’ll need to find your way through a flooded and spore-filled basement, and then power up a generator. You’ll need this artifact to progress, so you can’t miss it. You’re looking for a security room with a bank of monitors at the top of one of the collapsed sections of floor. The Hotel Keycard is on the desk.

Accretion comic location

Once the lights are on, you’ll use the Hotel Keycard to head back upstairs. After you take out the hunters in the kitchen and dining room, you’ll reunite with Ellie. Use the ladder to climb up to the second floor (again), and then take two lefts to reach the second floor of the dining room. Shuffle across to the bar side, and the Accretion comic is by the couches on your left.

Colby Reed Firefly pendant location

Back with Ellie, drop down to the first floor. Head into the second door on the left — the women’s bathroom. The Colby Reed Firefly pendant is in the stall on the left along the opposite wall.

Melee: Knots Training Manual location

In the main hall, continue just a little past the lobby, and the Melee: Knots Training Manual will be on a desk along the left side.

Financial District collectibles

The Financial District begins after Joel and Ellie escape the hotel, and launch their assault on the hunter-filled square. It wraps up when Henry and Sam lead you to their hideout.

Fireflies Note artifact location

The square where you start this section is full of hunters. Take them all out, and worry about the collectible after.

From where you started this encounter, head straight across the square. There’s a sub shop in the far right corner (after yet another Rivers Cafe). Inside, head behind the counter and into the room beyond. Turn around to your left to find the walk-in freezer. The Fireflies Note is on the ground inside.

This is the only collectible in this square, so once you’ve grabbed it, spend some time collecting supplies before making your way to the makeshift barricade.

Final Attack Note artifact location

You’ll leave that square through a garage (with a workbench). As you leave, you’ll see a cutscene, and then head up some stairs. At the top, you’ll encounter a couple more hunters. Once they’re dealt with or avoided, head into the long human resources (there’s a sign next to the door) office to the left of the stairwell. The Final Attack Note is under a desk at the far end.

Mob Attack Note artifact location

Back down at street level, you’ll eventually spot some hunters in a building to your left. On the second floor of that building, in the section missing walls and windows, look for a room in the back by the stairwell. The Mob Attack Note is under the large, L-shaped desk.

Truck Note artifact location

Back downstairs, take a right and handle a few more hunters. At the end of the street along the right side, you’ll spot a credit union that’s been converted into a ration depot. The Truck Note is on a counter inside.

Molotov: Construction Training Manual location

From the ration depot, head up the fire escape (to the left of the “Death for Freedom” graffiti), and down onto a new section of streets and alleys. After that, there will be a long (and stressful) sequence where you have to evade a truck-mounted machine gun. Keep pushing on until you meet Henry and Sam in a cutscene.

After the cutscene, follow them out of the bedroom. The Molotov: Construction Training Manual is on the counter in the apartment’s kitchen.

Deep Phase comic location

From Henry and Sam’s apartment, follow Henry and Sam to the next floor down. At the bottom of that first flight of stairs, you’ll find a shiv door. The Deep Phase comic is inside that apartment in the kid’s room on your left as you enter.

Lucas Rios Firefly pendant location

Follow Henry through the toy store and up onto the roofs. After handling a couple more hunters, you’ll head inside another building. Henry will unlock a door on the right side of the hallway. Before you follow him, head into the bathroom on the left side of the hall. The Lucas Rios Firefly pendant is in a stall on the left side.

Trial Note artifact location

Cross the hall into the room that Henry unlocked. Straight back from the door, there’s a conference room attached to this office. The Trial Note artifact is on the ground in the righthand corner.

Escape the City collectibles

The final section of the chapter starts with Henry and Joel staging their nighttime raid on the military checkpoint and closes out this chapter.

There are no collectibles in Escape the City.

Chapter 5 ‘The Suburbs’

There are 10 artifacts, 4 Firefly pendants, 2 Training Manual, 2 comics, and 1 tool in “The Suburbs.”

“The Surburbs” has two sections: Sewers and Suburbs.

Sewers collectibles

Sewers starts after you wake on on the shore of the river with Henry, Sam, and Ellie. It ends after running through a long gauntlet of infected and (finally) escaping the sewers.

Boat Note artifact location and Antiparticles comic location

The Last of Us ‘The Suburbs’ collectibles locations guide — Boat Note artifact location and Antiparticles comic location.

From the start of this chapter and section, follow Ellie along the riverbank to the abandoned boat. Climb on board and open the door to the main cabin. You’ll find both the Boat Note artifact and the Antiparticles comic inside.

Josh Scheffler Firefly pendant location

Still on that abandoned boat, drop through the opening in the deck aft of (behind) the cabin. The Josh Scheffler Firefly pendant is behind the blue net along the back side of the hole.

Robert Righetti Firefly pendant location

From the boat, follow the group up the rocks to the sewer entrance. Inside, look along the right side of the first open(ish) area you come to. There’s a tunnel you can crawl along to another room. The Robert Righetti Firefly pendant will be off to your left with some supplies.

Sewers Note artifact location

Back in the main tunnel, the group will split up. Follow your fork until you find a caged-in room that Ellie opens for you. This note is on a bench in the back left of the room.

Eddie Fuentes Firefly pendant location

Rejoin Henry and Sam, and follow them to a flooded section of sewer. Off to the left, you’ll see a moss-covered car resting on its nose. The Eddie Fuentes Firefly pendant is under the water by the car’s front bumper.

Trading Note artifact location

From that flooded room, you and Henry will open a gate. On the other side, Joel will climb a ladder and take on a pair of clickers. In the room where you kill those clickers, look in the back left corner for a mattress on the ground. The Trading Note is on the mattress.

Tools level 3 upgrade location

After you shuttle Ellie (and then Henry and Sam) across the flooded room, you’ll climb out into another section of tunnel. Just a little bit farther in, there’s a small room on your left. The next tool upgrade is inside.

Bomb: Containment Training Manual location and tool level 3 upgrade

Past the next set of doors, you’ll come to a living quarters (you’ll see the House Rules sign along the left wall). Over the barrier, you’ll pick up the shorty (sawed-off shotgun). The Bomb: Containment Training Manual will be on the shelves along the left side of the tunnel a little farther in.

Rain Catcher Note artifact location

Through the next gate, you’ll have a quick encounter with some runners and a clicker. Once they’re handled, head into the hallway on the right. At the top of the stairs, loot the room and pick up the Rain Catcher Note.

Cornered Note artifact location

Back in the room where you were ambushed, hop the barrier and climb the stairs. At the top, pass the shelves, and look to your left for a door. The Cornered Note is inside that (super depressing) room with some more supplies.

Kid’s Drawing artifact location

After you and Sam get separated from Henry and Ellie, you’ll have to shoot a whole lot of runners and clickers. Once they’re handled and you start moving through the sewer settlement again, you’ll eventually come to a nursery or classroom with bit foam letters on the floor. The Kid’s Drawing is on the bookcase to the right as you enter.

Suburbs

The Suburbs section begins when you escape from the sewers (and spot the less-than-helpful warning), and ends when you escape the suburbs after a long sequence where Joel uses a sniper rifle.

Looting Note artifact location

As the section starts, head forward to the road where you’ll turn left to follow it. Duck into the second house on the right side (the slightly taller brick one). The Looting Note is in a second-floor bedroom on your left at the top of the stairs.

Father’s Note artifact location

Back on the main street, it’ll curve around to the right and head downhill. When Sam and Ellie ask about the ice cream truck, there will be an open garage with a workbench on your left.

Next door, there’s another tall, brick house. Head inside and up to the second floor. Take a left at the top of the stairs, and you’ll find the Father’s Note on a dresser.

Melee: Techniques Training Manual location

From that same bedroom, look back into the hallway. Open the trapdoor to the attic, and boost Ellie up. She’ll hand the Melee: Techniques Training Manual down to you.

Survivors Note artifact location

Head back outside and then into the house next to that one with the red trim and the dogs fighting out front. Up on the second floor, the Survivors Note is in the bedroom at the top of the stairs.

Messenger Particle comic location

In that bedroom’s en suite, you’ll find the Messenger Particle comic on the toilet.

Matchbook artifact location

Skip the second bedroom on the second floor for now, and head up to the third floor instead. The Matchbook is on the desk right at the top of the stairs.

The safe code written on it is for the safe in that bedroom at the bottom of the stairs.

Matthew White Firefly pendant location

Back out on the street, continue along to the dead end. Climb up into the yard on your left (where the Firefly logo is). The Matthew White Firefly pendant is hanging from the tree above the swingset and toys. (There’s a brick nearby so you don’t have to waste any ammo.)

Chapter 6 ‘Tommy’s Dam’

There are 2 artifacts, 2 Firefly pendants, 1 Training Manual, and 2 comics in ‘Tommy’s Dam.’

“Tommy’s Dam” has two sections: Hydroelectric Dam and Ranch House.

Hydroelectric Dam

Hydroelectric Dam starts in the fall as Joel and Ellie arrive in Jackson County. It ends when you arrive at a (the) ranch house after the drama at the hydroelectric plant, a lot of shooting, and a brief horse chase.

Foreign Element comic location

The Last of Us ‘Tommy’s Dam’ collectibles locations guide — Foreign Element comic location.

From the start of the chapter, you’ll follow a path until it ends at a cliff, and then climb down to another path by the river. Just before you pass under the bridge, look uphill to your right. There’s a rusty car lying against the rocks (it’s hard to spot because it looks like another rock). The Foreign Element comic is next to it.

Power Plant Map artifact location

Continue along the path until you reach the FEDRA checkpoint (there will be a bulldozer on your left and a concrete wall on your right). The Power Plant Map is in the guard shack on the opposite side of the checkpoint.

Smoke: Chemistry Training Manual location

After the reunion cutscene(s), you’ll be inside the power plant. After some walking and talking, you’ll follow Tommy deeper into the plant. Keep following him until you reach a control room. The Smoke: Chemistry Training Manual is on the far side of the room to the left of the guy sitting at the console. (There’s also a workbench in the room to the left.)

Ryan Oliverio Firefly pendant location

Continue following Tommy. After the lights are on, go down the stairs to the main floor. Instead of following Tommy, turn left and cross all the way back to the area under the control room. The Ryan Oliverio Firefly pendant is on a shelf in the room you find there.

Plant Schematics artifact location

Get back to Tommy and watch the conversation. After Joel and Tommy are done talking, you’ll have some shooting to do. Make your way forward across the main floor and up the stairs on the right side. The Plant Schematics are on the table in the room at the top.

Ranch House

The Ranch House section starts when you arrive at the eponymous ranch, and ends when you leave the ranch after a heart-wrenching argument and some more shooting.

Brent Pino Firefly pendant location

Inside the ranch house, head toward the back of the first floor along the righthand side. The Brent Pino Firefly pendant is on a desk in the last room (with a fireplace and a lone chair in the middle of the floor).

Zero Point comic location

Up the stairs, turn into the first bedroom on your left. The Zero Point comic is to the left by the window.

Chapter 7 ‘The University’

There are 9 artifacts, 5 Firefly pendants, 2 Training Manual, 1 comics, and 1 tool level upgrade in “The University.”

“The University” has two sections: Go Big Horns and Science Building.

Go Big Horns

The chapter and this section begin as Joel and Ellie ride through the gates of the university, and ends when you reach the science building.

Free Radicals comic location

As soon as the chapter starts, turn around and ride back along the road. It’ll curve right and uphill. At the top, look for a white box truck crashed into an SUV near the dead end. The Free Radicals comic is on the hood of the SUV.

Sniper’s Nest Log artifact location

Head back to the gate and into the campus. Continue through the parking lots until you hit a low barricade. Turn right, and go into the open loading dock (where you’ll find a flamethrower, some supplies, and a workbench). Climb onto the ledge on your right as you enter, and turn right again to go through a door. Head up the stairs (there’s an empty room behind the door on the first landing) to the second floor. You’ll find the Sniper’s Nest Log on the balcony by some lawn chairs.

Hope Pino Firefly pendant location

Keep working your way into the campus until you hit an intersection. The way forward will be on your left. Instead, turn to the right. The Hope Pino Firefly pendant is hanging in the tree in the back right corner of this dead end. Use the bottles on your right to knock it down (or just shoot it).

Wall Panel Note artifact location

When you ride into the building on the left side of that intersection, you’ll eventually come to a gate (where you’ll hear some runners). Head over to the other gate on the righthand wall to find the Wall Panel Note.

Alex Rohner Firefly pendant location

A little farther into campus, you’ll climb a long flight of stairs with a barrier at the top. Before the barrier, look to the right. Climb up into the building there and the Alex Rohner Firefly pendant will be on a desk to your right.

Health: Sterilization Training Manual location

Over the barrier, you’ll come to a statue in the middle(?) of campus. Turn right at the statue, and head over to the building. Climb through the broken window and up the stairs. At the first landing, climb out onto the roof, and then back through another window on your left. The Health: Sterilization Training Manual and a bunch of supplies are in that room.

UEC Campus Map artifact location

On the other side of that statue-square, continue to a tunnel that’s blocked by a gate. Head through the door on the right side of that tunnel. The UEC Campus Map is on the reception desk inside.

Student’s Journal artifact location

Up on the second floor of that building (the dormitory, according to the sign out front), go into the first room on your left. Continue through the attached bathroom and into the next dorm room. The Student’s Journal is in a drawer under the bunk bed next to the door back to the main hallway. (You could go straight into the second dorm room, but you’d miss out on a bunch of supplies.)

Joe Warren Firefly pendant location

At the end of the hall, you’ll run into spores, and then drop through a hole in the floor. There are several clickers and one bloater in the area. The Joe Warren Firefly pendant is on the bloater (it’s standing by itself at the end of the hall to the right). We recommend Molotov cocktails or your new flamethrower to take it out.

Newspaper Clipping artifact location

After you’re done playing with the clickers, you’ll head back up to the second floor. At the top of the stairs, turn right, and then go into the first room on your right (room 209). The Newspaper Clipping is along the left side of the room.

Erik Griggs Firefly pendant location

After you get back outside and start the generator, you’ll finally reach the science building. Your path will lead you to the left across the front and past a bunch of tents (with supplies inside most of them). At the far side of this area, there are two tents by themselves (behind a white box truck). The Erik Griggs Firefly pendant is in the one on the right.

Science Building

The Science Building section begins when you climb into said science building. It ends after you leave that building.

Molotov: Deployment Training Manual location and tools level 4 location

When you climb up into the science building, head all the way to the left to find a workbench, but don’t use it yet. Head through the door to the left of it, and loot your way through that lab. Head out the next door, and turn left (the door where all the wires are running will be right ahead of you). There’s a shiv door at the end of the hall on the right. The Molotov: Deployment Training Manual and tools level 4 are inside. (Now you can head back to that workbench.)

Office Recorder artifact location

Follow the wires on the floor out through that door we saw earlier and onto a balcony. Follow it around to a stairwell, and then head up a floor. At the top of the stairs, turn left and go through the door. Head into the first room on your left. The Office Recorder is directly ahead of you on the counter by the window (and a photo of a woman and her dog).

Fungal X-Rays artifact location

Make a loop of the floor to loot everything not nailed down, and then head back to where you started. To the right, there’s a hall with plastic sheeting (and an exit sign above it) and curtains. On the other side of that room, there’s a lab. The Fungal X-Rays are on a table by the window to the left.

Lab Recorder artifact location and Sadie Pearle Hickman Firefly Pendant location

Through the next door, after startling some monkeys, you’ll be in another large lab. The Lab Recorder is on a table along the right wall (about halfway back). The Sadie Pearle Hickman Firefly Pendant is on a shelf in the back right corner.

Firefly’s Recorder artifact location

After another lootable lab, you’ll push through another door. Joel will pick up and listen to the Firefly’s Recorder during a cutscene.

Chapter 8 ‘Lakeside Resort’

There are 12 artifacts, 2 Firefly pendants, 1 Training Manual, and 2 comics in “Lakeside Resort.”

“Lakeside Resort” has two sections: The Hunt and Cabin Resort.

The Hunt

The Hunt starts with Ellie hunting a deer, and ends after Ellie and David survive an infected assault.

Ellie’s Artifacts

As soon as you start the chapter as Ellie(!), you’ll have these 8 artifacts and 1 Firefly Pendant in your backpack. Open your inventory and hit X to view each of them. Turn, flip, and zoom in on them. Usually, Ellie will make a comment of some sort.

Uncertainty comic location

The Last of Us ‘Lakeside Resort’ collectibles locations guide — Uncertainty comic location.

While chasing the deer, you’ll follow it into a collapsing building. As you walk in, watch along your left for a room. The Uncertainty comic is in a desk drawer in the far right corner.

Travis Kristof Firefly pendant location

Much later, after a lot of infected, you and David will be fleeing through a large storehouse, and he’ll boost you up to the catwalks. As you’re making your way around the building, watch for a room on your left — it’s just before you reach the ladder. The Travis Kristof Firefly pendant is on a crate to your left as you walk in.

Cabin Resort

Cabin Resort starts when Ellie realizes she’s been tracked by hunters. It ends (much, much later) when Joel and Ellie reunite.

Paul D. Braun Firefly pendant location

Once you’re back on foot, you’ll flee into a large house. After the first wave of hunters are handled, head out the front door and turn right. Head into the gazebo, and the Paul D. Braun Firefly pendant will be on the bench to your right.

Negentropy comic location

A bit later, once you escape the cabins (and several more hunters), you’ll shuffle your way over to a new path. When you crawl through a pipe (the first of two), turn around to your left. Head up the stairs to find the Negentropy comic on the farthest bench.

Lake Resort Map artifact location

You won’t find the next artifact for a long time. You’ll play as Ellie, and then Joel, and then Ellie, and then Joel again. When you have control of Joel in the snowstorm after Ellie’s stabby-stealth encounter, you will already have the Lake Resort Map.

Smoke: Shaping Training Manual location

When you start your approach through the snowstorm as Joel, you’ll be on a street with a gas station on your right and a motel on your left. (The gas station has a bunch of arrows, so it’s a good place to stage your stealth attack as you clear out the first bunch of hunters.) A few rooms down along the motel, there’s a crashed pickup and an open door. Head through that motel room, and then climb out of the bathroom window. Turn left to find a shiv door. The Smoke: Shaping Training Manual is inside.

Ellie’s Backpack artifact location

Keep pushing through the storm and the streets until you duck through a door and enter a cutscene — it’s the only way to progress, so you can’t miss this door. Joel will find Ellie’s Backpack during a cutscene.

Meat Ledger artifact location

Once you have Ellie’s backpack (and control again), turn to the right. The Meat Ledger is on a shelf by your shoulder.

Chapter 9 ‘Bus Depot’

There are 3 artifacts, 3 Firefly pendants, 1 Training Manual, 2 comics, and 1 tool in “Bus Depot.”

“Bus Depot” has two sections: Highway Exit and Underground Tunnel.

Highway Exit

Highway Exit, unsurprisingly, starts on the highway by an exit. This section follows Ellie and Joel through a quarantine zone, and ends when they reach a tunnel.

Family Photograph artifact location

Head down the highway through all the abandoned cars. You’ll pass an ambulance on your left. Right after that, there will be an RV with an open door. Head inside to find the Family Photograph.

Katrina Perich Firefly pendant location

A little farther along, you’ll head down an exit ramp. Just past the school bus, there’s a white station wagon against a wall and some barrels. Loop around the car, and the Katrina Perich Firefly pendant is on the ground by the barrels.

Note to Wife artifact location

Once you climb over the bus and drop into the quarantine zone, you’ll cut over to a bus station. Inside, keep to the left and head down the stairs. You’ll find the Note to Wife in a pile of luggage.

Precipitate comic location

After your quick detour to the roof, you’ll head back down a different set of stairs. At the bottom, you’ll head into a lobby(?). Head into the bathroom on your right to find the Precipitate comic.

Tools level 5 location

On the other side of the bus station, you’ll come to a triage area with several medical tents. Head into the largest tent (second from the left). The tools level 5 is on a table to the right as you walk in.

Nicole Hoo Firefly pendant location

Keep following the tents to the left. After the final, blue tent, Look up at the floodlights near the overturned dumpster. The Nicole Huu Firefly pendant is hanging from the lower right lamp.

Salt Lake Q.Z. Map artifact location

From there, cross to the far right corner to find another tent by itself. The Salt Lake Q.Z. Map is inside, along with a workbench.

Joel & Sarah Photo artifact location

Before you leave the triage area, Ellie will run up and hand you the Joel & Sarah Photo she stole.

Natalie Hoo Firefly pendant location

After you crawl through the bus blocking the exit to the triage area, you’ll be on a(nother) street. Follow it to the left. Loop around the front of the bus on your left, and you’ll find the Natalie Hoo Firefly pendant on the ground.

Underground Tunnel

Underground Tunnel begins, also unsurprisingly, when Ellie and Joel reach the underground tunnel. It ends after you’ve escaped the flooded tunnel.

Bomb: Shrapnel Training Manual location

A little way into the tunnel, after the first couple encounters with infected, there will be a side hallway on the right. After handling the three infected inside and looting everything not nailed down, head back to the main tunnel. This flooded section will be full of all flavors of infected. In the middle of the tunnel, near a column, there is a box truck. The Bomb: Shrapnel Training Manual is on the roof.

Catalysis comic location

A bit farther along again, you’ll come to a jackknifed semi that you have to swim under. When you drop the ladder from the roof down to Ellie, there are air ducts along the left wall. Climb on and follow them all the way to the far end to find the Catalysis comic.

Chapter 10 ‘The Firefly Lab’

There are 4 artifacts and 1 Firefly pendant in “The Firefly Lab.”

“The Firefly Lab” only has one section: The Hospital.

The Hospital

This entire chapter and section takes place in the hospital and the Firefly’s lab, and ends when you leave.

Surgeon’s Recorder artifact location

The Last of Us ‘The Firefly Lab’ collectibles locations guide — Surgeon’s Recorder artifact location.

You won’t find your first collectible in this chapter until you head up to the second floor, so just focus on avoiding or killing the Firefly soldiers for now. When you make it to the stairwell, head up until you hit another door. The Surgeons Recorder will be on the counter in front of you when you exit the stairwell.

Marlene’s Recorder 1 artifact location

Turn to the right, and duck into the narrow room next to the stairwell. You’ll find Marlene’s Recorder 1 inside.

Bryony Stewart-Seume Firefly pendant location

Back on the main floor, hop the counter where you grabbed the Surgeon’s Recorder (or just boringly run around it), and head over to the right. Get through the shiv door to find the Bryony Stewart-Seume Firefly pendant (the last Firefly pendant) and a ton of supplies.

Marlene’s Journal artifact location

Through the door, there’s a tented area with a big Firefly logo on the side. Head inside and into the back room to find Marlene’s Journal.

Marlene’s Recorder 2 artifact location

From there, you’ll head into the surgery wing. After taking out a few more Fireflies, you’ll go through a door and barricade it from the other side. Head into the first room on the right to find Marlene’s Recorder 2, the final artifact, on the far side of the room.

Chapter 11 ‘Jackson’

There is 1 comic in “Jackson.”

“Jackson” only has one section: Epilogue.

Epilogue

We’ve reached the end of the game. This section starts when Joel and Ellie give up on their truck and finishes when the credits roll.

Singularity comic location

As this final section begins, Ellie and Joel will squeeze through a barbed wire fence. As Joel jogs ahead, look off to the right for an(other) abandoned pickup. The Singularity comic is on the front seat.
