MultiVersus: Best Batman perks guide

Here’s a look at all the perks available to the Dark Knight in MultiVersus

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

Batman is a powerful brawler on the streets of Gotham, and he takes that expertise into MultiVersus, the new platform fighter from Warner Bros. and Player First Games.

Like all MultiVersus characters, Batman has a wide variety of perks to choose from, allowing you to customize him to fit your playstyle. In this guide, we’ll go over all of Batman’s perks, what they do, and even recommend some perk combos so you can claim victory with the Dark Knight.

What are perks and how do they work?

Every character in MultiVersus can equip three perks and one signature perk before each match. The standard perks can appear on multiple characters (although no character has access to all perks), and fall into three categories:

  • Offense: Perks that increase damage to enemies
  • Defense: Perks that help you stay alive
  • Utility: Perks that increase non-damaging attributes, like movement speed

You’ll unlock these perks on a per-character basis based on your Mastery level with them, which you’ll increase as you play matches.

All standard perks can also be enhanced an additional level in team battles, which is called “stacking.” To stack a perk, both you and your ally will need to equip the same perk while playing together. At level six, all characters gain the ability to borrow perks from their ally, opening up some powerful combinations.

Signature perks are unique to characters and enhance character-specific abilities with new effects. Most characters have two Signature perks to pick from, but others have three.

Batman perks

Batman is a brawler character that also uses ranged gadgets to take on foes. In addition to just using his fists, Batman can throw his Batarang, grappling hook onto players, drop smoke bombs, and even attach bombs to enemies. He can also glide back to safety using his cape. He’s best at knocking enemies out vertically.

Here are our picks for the best Batman perks in solo and free-for-all matches:

  • Hit ‘Em While They’re Down
  • Up, Up, and A-Slay
  • Slippery When Feint
  • Bouncerang

Without any allies, Batman excels at bashing his foes in close combat and juggling them into his Batarang. This is why we’re going with a build focused around Bouncerang, as we’ve had great success throwing out a fully charged ‘rang and then juggling our enemy with a combo so they get hit on the return. We’re also taking Slippery When Feint here because you do need to get some distance between you and your target so you can throw the Batarang to begin with.

Here are our picks for the best Batman perks in team play:

  • Hit ‘Em While They’re Down
  • Up, Up, and A-Slay
  • That’s (Not) All, Folks!
  • Precision Grapple

In team play, we’re swapping to Precision Grapple. The problem with the grapple normally is that it’s easy to counter, and the reduced damage from the perk is counter intuitive when you’re your enemy’s only focus. However, when you have an ally to help take some of the heat and deal damage, you’ll be able to contribute to the chaos even more with your grapple explosions. We’re also trading out Slippery When Feint for That’s (Not) All, Folks! for the added team utility.

Hit ‘Em While They’re Down and Up, Up, and A-Slay are natural fits for Batman in any type of mode, and can be made even better by pairing him with another vertical fighter or a fighter with debuffs.

These perk combinations have worked well for us, but MultiVersus is still in its infancy. We’ll update our suggestions if we find better combinations or if Player First Games adds more options
