How to get The Witcher 3’s Netflix-inspired gear

Craft the Forgotten Wolf School armor and swords

Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s update to version 4.0 brings Geralt some new armor inspired by the Netflix series. Called the Forgotten Wolf School Gear, it’s a full set, including the Forgotten Wolven armor, boots, gauntlets, trousers, and steel and silver swords.

Our Witcher 3 Forgotten Wolf School Gear guide will tell you everything you need to know to collect the diagrams and craft the gear.

To collect the diagrams for the Forgotten Wolf School Gear, you’ll need to take on The Witcher 3’s new (suggested) level 15 secondary quest, “In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow.” Head to the Devil’s Pit on the large island in the northeast of Velen — it’s just southeast of the Hanged Man’s Tree signpost where you first enter Velen.

You’ll meet an Eternal Fire Priest there who needs your help. The quest itself is straightforward enough — kill the deserters, loot a key, open the mine, and explore until you fight the big bad. The first few enemies you run into are level 14, so make sure you’re prepared.

The mine is extensive and creepy. After a lot of exploring, looting, and learning, you’ll make your way to the main arena where you’ll meet an old Witcher named Reinald. After that fight (Quen works great here), you’ll have to face the real enemy, a Red Miasmal. Keep using Quen and try to ignore the pair of Plague Victims that show up so you can focus your attention on the Miasmal.

After the fight, you’ll get the Forgotten Wolf School Gear from Reinald — a custom outfit of his own design. Read through all the notes you picked up to also grab the Kaer Morhen scavenger hunts for the Wolf School Gear, Wolf School Gear diagrams, and Wolf School Gear upgrade diagrams - part 2. (To complete these, you’ll need to progress until you’re able to return to Kaer Morhen.)

Once you’re done talking, finish the quest however you see fit.

The diagrams you get from Reinald allow you to create the Forgotten Wolven armor, boots, gauntlets, trousers, and steel and silver swords, all of which require level 20 to equip.

To craft them, you’ll need some cash and:

  • Forgotten Wolven armor: 1 Shirt, 2 Cured Draconid Leather, 2 Dimeritium Plate, 3 Linen, and 1 Monster Hide.
  • Forgotten Wolven boots: 2 Hardened Leather, 1 Meteorite Ore, 3 Thread, 1 Leather Scraps.
  • Forgotten Wolven gauntlets: 1 Hardened Leather, 1 Dark Steel Ingot, 4 Leather Straps, 4 Monster Claws, and 2 Nails.
  • Forgotten Wolven trousers: 2 Silk, 1 Meteorite Ore, 2 Hardened Timber, 1 Monster Heart, and 4 Leather Scraps.
