How to find Dead Space remake’s secret sea shanty, text log, and free nodes

The Dead Space remake is faithful to the original, with only a few changes. It’s not identical, though. In addition to things like the new alternate ending, there are a few new secrets to find on the USG Ishimura. These three were found by Collin MacGregor on Twitter.

Head to the Bridge>Break Room

You have to input the cheat code for both the Easter egg and the free nodes in the same room. You can’t get to it until Chapter 4 “Obliteration Imminent,” though. Once you dispatch the Brute necromorph in the Main Atrium on the Bridge, you’ll unlock the elevators there. The elevator closest to where the Brute appeared will take you down to Floor 1 as part of the Reroute Power from Electrical Systems objective (but you can return here at any time).

When you exit the elevator, follow the hall until you come to the Break Room — it’s the first door on your right. The Break Room has a circle painted (we hope it’s paint) on the floor and there’s a video playing of the Marker from Aegis VII.

Do a little dance

Stand in the center of the circle. You’re going to be doing a series of melee strikes (R1) and stomps (R2). To keep Isaac in the circle as you punch and kick, you’ll have to move him back slightly between each — he steps forward a little with every attack.

Sea shanty

Standing in the circle, hit: melee, stomp, melee, melee, stomp, melee, stomp, melee, melee, melee, melee, stomp. (If you’d rather just see the buttons, it’s: R1, R2, R1, R1, R2, R1, R2, R1, R1, R1, R1, R2.)

The video on the screen ahead of you will flash red and an audio log will appear next to you. Pick it up and listen for a nice callback to 2020.

Text log

This code is actually painted on the floor around the circle — the handprints are punches and the footprints are stomps.

To find a secret text log, try: melee, stomp, stomp, stomp, melee, stomp, melee, stomp, stomp, stomp, melee, stomp (or R1, R2, R2, R2, R1, R2, R1, R2, R2, R2, R1, R2).

The screen will flash red again, and this time you’ll get a text log. Praised be the Markers, and Altman, their eternal prophet, indeed.

Free nodes

For two free nodes, do: melee, melee, stomp, melee, melee, stomp, stomp, melee, melee, melee, stomp, stomp (R1, R1, R2, R1, R1, R2, R2, R1, R1, R1, R2, R2).

After another red flash, you’ll find two free nodes on the ground next to you. This one is as close to the original’s cheat codes as exists, sadly. If you want even more free nodes, you’ll have to use the free ammo exploit.
