Halo Infinite has five upgrades to Master Chief’s Spartan Armor: the Grappleshot, Shield Core, Threat Sensor, Drop Wall, and Thruster. You’ll pick them up pretty quickly over the first few main story missions, and each then has four additional levels of upgrades, which you purchase with Spartan Cores.

In this Halo Infinite upgrades guide, we’ll explain what each piece of gear and upgrades are, how you upgrade them, and which to upgrade first.

Halo Infinite Upgrades

Over the course of the first couple main story missions, Master Chief will pick up five different pieces of equipment for his Spartan Armor. In order, they are the Grappleshot, Shield Core, Threat Sensor, Drop Wall, and Thruster.

Halo Infinite Spartan Cores

You’ll find Spartan Cores scattered around the map — they’re kind of everywhere. Conveniently, they’re automatically marked with a triangular icon and populated onto your map as you liberate FOBs.

From your map, set a Spartan Core as your waypoint and make your way there. They’ll look like a crate with a holographic UNSC logo floating on top.

Best upgrades to unlock first

Without question, put all of your first Spartan Cores into your Grappleshot and Shield Core. Spread them between the two, but focus on these two first.

The Shield Core is an obvious choice. Strengthening your rechargeable shield will only make surviving the Banished easier.

The Grappleshot is less obvious, but is easily our favorite addition to Halo Infinite. You’ll use it to traverse Zeta Halo quickly, stun enemies, retrieve weapons, and commandeer vehicles.
