Halo Infinite’s difficulty options aren’t accessible while you’re actively playing. To change it up — whether you’re making the game easier or harder — you’ll have to exit to the menus and adjust from there.
Here are the steps:
- From the main Campaign menu, select Load save rather than Continue.
- Once you’ve selected your save, select Difficulty, then choose one of the four options: Easy, Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
- Hit Play.
This screen is also where you’re able to turn on Skulls, which adjust different areas of Halo Infinite — like making bigger explosions or making rare combat dialogue more common. The Skulls menu is accessible right under Difficulty.
Halo Infinite’s campaign, released in December, was created with the Normal difficulty level as its starting point, character director Stephen Dyck told VCG. Previous games, like Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, were built around the Heroic option. After focusing tuning to Normal, the team reportedly dialed up the difficulty for Heroic and Legendary.
