Horizon Forbidden West guide: Tallneck locations

In this Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck map location guide, we’ll show you the location of all five Tallnecks throughout the Daunt and the Forbidden West.

Horizon Forbidden West Tallnecks are the plodding, giraffe-like creatures you might remember from the first game (or the new Lego set). When you climb to their heads and override them, they’ll reveal a large swatch of nearby points of interest. Finding and overriding all of the will earn you the All Tallnecks Overridden Trophy.

Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck locations

There are a total of six Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West with one each in Cinnabar Sands, The Shining Wastes, The Stillsands, Salt Bite, The Sand of the Sentinels, and Landfall.

Unlike Horizon Zero Dawn, the majority of the Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West require a couple extra steps beyond just climbing and overriding.

In Cinnabar Sands, for example, you’re required to climb a structure, carry around a power cell, activate a console, and move a satellite dish before you can reach its head. In Salt Bite, you’ll have to complete Cauldron Iota (which has a recommended level of 22). Far to the west, at Landfall, you’ll need the Diving Mask — an item you’ll collect during “The Sea of Sands” Main Quest (which is also level 22) — to complete it.

The Shining Sands Tallneck solution

One early Tallneck you’ll run into is in The Shining Sands — you’ll probably see it shortly after leaving your Base after completing the “Death’s Door” Main Quest. The problem is, there’s no way to climb it.

There’s no secret solution to this one — you just have to wait. You’ll land on this Tallneck and override it as part of “The Wings of the Ten” Main Quest (level 32) very late in the game.
