Now that Mario Golf: Super Rush’s Gold Adventure has gotten good and weird, it’s time to go claim the Lightning Sword from The Spirit. Obviously.

In this Mario Golf: Super Rush guide, we’ll give you tips for completing The Spirit’s Great Trials — The Trial of Distance, the Trial of Loft, and the Trial of Timing — and help you win the boss fight against the knight.

Visit the Statue

After you listen to Wario and Waluigi, you’ll get a message from The Spirit.

Great Trial 1 – Trial of Distance

Your goal is to land a shot in each of the three blue circles. Pick a club that gets you close to the right distance, and add some backspin (or super backspin) to make sure your ball doesn’t roll too far. You’ll want to use a different club for each distance. We used the driver, standard 6 hybrid, and pitching wedge.

Great Trial 2 – Trial of Loft

Continue forward to the next green. You’ll need a lob wedge, so open your golfwatch, tab over to equipment, and add it to your clubs.

A wall of water will appear. Your task is to lob shots into the three blue areas on the other side. Remember that you have to hit Y to switch to lob shots.

These will all be duff shots, so make sure you’re ready to hit the duff gauge once you set your power.

Great Trial 3 – Trial of Timing

At the final green, the statue will come to life and start shooting lightning at you.

Pick a direction, and run to avoid the purple targets on the ground. After three lightning bolts from above and one straight shot from the knight, there will be a pause. Head back to one of the craters and hit the A button.

This will set you up for a shot. Wait for the duff gauge to appear, and time your shot correctly to return the lighting to the knight. Do this three times.

You’ll be rewarded with the Lightning Sword.
