This introductory stage familiarizes you with Mark of the Ninja: Remastered’s controls and its basic mechanics and flow. You learn about stealth movement and kills, gain your first weapons, and are provided with the map resource you can use throughout the campaign’s remainder.

Ring Azai’s Large Gongs
There are smaller gongs positioned throughout the level, but ringing them won’t satisfy the seal’s objective. About a third of the way into the level, You’ll get the darts and you can finally start working on this seal.
Not long after you acquire the darts, you will emerge from a series of interior locations and proceed through a long exterior courtyard. The first large gong is positioned near a guard you’ll distract by ringing it.
Continue right from where you find the first large gong to meet with Ora, who is positioned near a second gong that you can ring on the same screen as the one where you acquire the map (which occurs automatically near the stage’s halfway point — you can’t miss it).
The third large gong is located a short distance to the left of the first imprisoned ninja you find, almost immediately after the second gong. It is out in the open, on ground level ahead of a closed door.
The final large gong is positioned a short distance to the upper right from where you find a ninja tied to a chair being beaten by one of two guards.
Rescue All the Ninja
There are four ninja comrades who have been captured in the region. You will only start encountering them once you’re most of the way through the level. As you get near them, you can press and hold the indicated button to untie them (once you have eliminated any nearby guards, of course). Make sure you do not forget to untie any of the ninja, or you will not satisfy the seal’s objective.
You encounter the first ninja shortly after you acquire the map. There is a large gong outside the room where he is imprisoned, which you should ring from a safe vantage point (the ledge over the door works well) because it will cause a guard to emerge. Take care of the guard, then enter the room and untie your comrade.
The second ninja is located in an overhead chamber not far from the first ninja. He is bound and hanging from the ceiling. You will need to cut him loose so he falls to the floor, then untie him.
The third ninja is waiting in a room to the upper right not far from where you find the second one. He is also tied to a chair and being beaten by a guard.
The fourth and final ninja is located at the very end of the stage, just after the final checkpoint, and he cannot be missed because you must free him to finish the stage.
Save Azai Without Being Detected
After you activate the final checkpoint just ahead of the end of the stage, you will witness a cutscene where a soldier talks to your sensei, Master Azai.
When the soldier leaves, following the cutscene, you are free to dispatch of the remaining goons as you see fit. The easiest way to do this is to head right on the upper level, roll through a vent, and then descend along the right side of the screen. There, you can find a new opening to pass underneath both guards, to emerge from a vent cover along the floor to their left. Finish by silently dispatching first the guard on the left and then the one on the right. Finally, untie Master Azai.

Ink & Dreams Scroll #1
Just after you acquire the grappling hook, ascend through an overhead vent. You arrive in a vertical shaft, with one vent leading right and another one leading to the upper left. Pass through that upper left vent to find a small chamber with the scroll resting on a pedestal.

After you acquire the darts, continue through the stage until you arrive at a room with two guards standing beneath a chandelier. From the safety of the upper ledge, toss a dart at the light fixture to detach it from the ceiling, so that it falls and kills both guards at once. Then drop to the floor and head to the left of where they were standing to find a small chamber with the scroll.

Progress through the stage until you ring the first gong. A short distance to the right from there, you’ll find a room with a closed door. Climb the wall over that door and drop down through vents in the ceiling to kill the waiting guard, then check the nearby pedestal to find the scroll.
