Your goal in Mark of the Ninja: Remastered “The Trail of Shadow” is to find and then trail a target, as resistance to your ninja efforts grows increasingly competent … and lethal.
Access the Communications Tower Without Being Detected
This seal shows up as an optional objective alongside the required Access the Watchtower objective, shortly after you acquire the second seal by clearing the challenge room. You will meet with Ora on a rooftop ahead of a series of high ledges connected by stairs.
There are many guards patrolling the stairs ahead, so proceed with caution. When you can, try simply to avoid guards, which is most easily accomplished by keeping to the lower routes. If you are spotted, let yourself get killed and then resume from the checkpoint. As you work toward the right, stay cautious and stick to grappling points and handholds along the ceiling, until finally you have gone as far to the right as you can and must ascend a high wall.
Near the top of that wall, you will find a high grappling point, just to the upper right from where two guards are facing each other on a rooftop and having a conversation. Grapple up to that point and look left, where a spotlight sweeps slowly left and right. When it sweeps left, you can follow it to reach a vent, then swiftly pass through the vent to arrive at the top of a vertical shaft.
When you drop into the shaft, you’ll land on another grappling hook ledge. At the very start of the stage, the game provided you with information about how to dangle from such ledges, which is what you want to do now. Dangle and descend between the laser-lined walls, until you are even with an electric box to the left. Throw your dart at that box to disable any nearby lasers. Then you can drop down to the console on the floor and interact with it to claim your seal.
Kill Six of the Courier’s Guards
You’ll have to wait until you have located and begun pursuing the Courier, which happens only after you access the Communications Tower.
A short distance to the right from the terminal you activate while completing that unmissable objective, you will reach Building 6. Climb its side and enter a low passageway. There, deactivate some lasers using a smoke bomb. Then drop down the shaft and pass through a yellow patch of light that serves as a checkpoint.
Your target will start working his way slowly toward the right, and you have to be careful not to fall too far behind or to let him see you. You also don’t want to kill him, as your goal is to let him lead you somewhere.
Drop down behind the Courier as he heads right, and enter the vent that runs along the building’s lower level. You should arrive at a room with two guards, around the time the Courier passes through. He will send a guard off toward the left. As soon as you safely can, hop up and kill that soldier from behind. You may have to pick a door’s lock if he has a bit of a lead.
Head back toward the right now, sticking to the vent. The other guard and the Courier will have headed in that direction, and the guard will stand beneath a street light, looking off in your direction. Drop down in the vent ahead of him, and move quickly along it. Disable the lasers you find there using another smoke bomb.
Keep to the vents and continue right. Let the Courier and a guard open a door overhead. The guard will take up position to the right of the stage’s fifth and final dumpster, at the base of some stairs. Allow the Courier to make his way up the stairs to the first landing. Then you can emerge from your hiding place and take out the guard. Toss him in the dumpster, too.
Now you can kill a third guard, who is lingering behind the Courier on the first landing. Then hurry to the upper right from there and pick the lock on the door. Be careful about entering the room too quickly, though; lean in against it to see if the way is clear, as there is a patrolling dog. When you can safely do so, enter the room and launch yourself up to a grappling point near the ceiling.
From the grappling point, jump up to grab the ceiling. Crawl along it toward the right side of the room. Then drop down behind the guard who is seated at the turret gun and kill him from behind, when you can safely do so without alerting the dog. Then drop through the lower vent along the floor.
As you head toward the right, you will now receive a new objective: Find an Alternate Route. However, you still have a couple more guards to kill. There happen to be two of them in the room above you. Take care of them to complete your required tally.
Fill Five Dumpsters with Dispatched Guards
There are five dumpsters spread across the stage. Due to the stage’s design, they’re difficult to miss and not a real challenge to fill. Near each dumpster, there is a guard or two you can kill. Then you simply drag the body over to the dumpster and press the button indicated by the prompt that appears when you are within range to deposit said corpse.
The first dumpster you find rests at the top of a building just to the right of walkway where you encounter the first dog, near the start of the stage. There is a guard standing just to the left of the dumpster, looking in its direction while enjoying the warm glow cast by an overhead lamp.
You will find the second dumpster just a short distance right from there, at the base of the same building but on the right side. Another guard is standing there, near another street light. A dog slumbers to the right.
Proceed to the right from where you find the second dumpster, by rolling along the vent and then grappling to a higher vent above where some guards are positioned. Ascend the overhead wall and then start to the right to spot the dumpster. The entrance to the Communications Tower is a short distance away from the dumpster, to the upper left.
The fourth dumpster is not far away. As you reach the top of the tower and start right, a soldier throws a blinding flare at you. Once it fades, you can eliminate the guard or just drop down through the platform where he stands when he is distracted. On the lower level, start right to find the dumpster.
To use the fifth and final dumpster, you must progress through the stage until you find the Courier, as described above. Keep following the fellow and along the way, you will have the chance to kill numerous guards. At least one of them is positioned near the base of some stairs the Courier slowly climbs. Let him ascend high enough that his light won’t reveal you, then kill a guard and stuff him into the final dumpster to complete the seal.
Voice of the Hisomu
Once you reach the Communications Tower, a short distance into the stage, you can head left and then ascend along some stairs toward the rooftop. On the way, one level below where you see the glowing yellow light that marks a checkpoint, you can head to the right to find a locked door. Pick the lock on the door, and watch the moving laser mounted on the wall to the right. Let it rise above your eye level, then rush in and to the right side of the room. Grab the scroll, which rests there on a pedestal, then dash quickly left and close the door behind you. If you don’t close the door, the laser will be able to hit you even though you’re no longer in the same room.
Just to the right of where you find the third dumpster in the stage, to the right from the Communications Tower, there is a high wall with a vent at its base. Roll through the vent and descend along the corridor to find the stage’s challenge room.
To clear the challenge room, complete the following steps:
- Head right along the floor to the first bit of shelter, just right of the entrance, and from there watch the lasers to your right to get a sense of their movements.
- When the lasers have swept left and started up along the walls on the left and right sides of the room, run right and stand beneath the central point of shelter on the lower level, where the lasers can’t hit you.
- When the right of the two lasers hits the shelter overhead and then starts right again, follow quickly behind it to reach the shelter on the room’s lower right side.
- Now scale the wall on the room’s right side, pausing when the shelters are positioned between you and the lasers. As long as you only make short trips from one point of shelter to the next and then get a feel for the lasers at each stop, you should make it safely to the top right bit of shelter.
- Flip the wall panel there to deactivate the right laser.
- Hop up to the ceiling and crawl left to the point of shelter at the upper left side of the challenge room.
- Flip that wall panel, and also pull the nearby lever so that the handle is no longer vertical.
- Return to the lower right side of the room, now no longer needing to worry about the lasers. Pull the lever positioned there.
- At this point, the lasers should all be deactivated and the levers on the upper left and lower right sides of the room should have been pulled so they are no longer vertical. If that is the case, you can then jump up along the ledges toward the center of the room to find the scroll in an alcove.
Not far from the very end of the stage, you will flee from guards that give pursuit once you steal valuable intel from the Courier. As you head right, you’ll soon reach an elevator shaft, which you can eventually ascend.
At the top of the elevator shaft, you’ll start toward the right and pass through a long room with two pairs of laser beams that sweep left and right, with a grappling point on the wall between them. When you cross to that grappling point, you can then drop straight down through a vent to reach a chamber shaped like a Z turned on its side.
Descend through that chamber to reach a lower one where there are two laser beams. One is horizontal and one is vertical, and there is a pedestal in the room’s lower right side with a scroll on it. Stand on the grappling hook positioned below the vent. Toss a smoke bomb toward the lower right, where the two beams intersect. Then jump down into the cloud and quickly grab your scroll. Grapple swiftly back left to the platform, to reach safety before the smoke clears and the lasers turn lethal once more.
