The goal in Mark of the Ninja: Remastered’s “A Change in Course” is to create a distraction, and there’s no destruction quite like fire. Your enemies won’t just stand around while you set their future ablaze, however, so you’re going to have to use your head if you want to turn up the heat.

Seals

Terrify a Guard by Killing Another with a Spike Mine

From the start of the stage, you’ll head left and enter a nearly abandoned building. As you work your way through it, you start coming across guards as your activities warrant their attention.

After descending with Ora through a largely vertical room with steep steps, you find yourself at the top of a gentler staircase. To the left, there is a security camera that emits blue waves, and just to the left from there are two guards and a grappling point.

Grapple over to the grappling point above the guards, then hop up and cling to the ceiling. Head left until you can grapple left again to a second grapple point in that direction. There is a guard who patrols on the lower level, and one of the two guards you saw a moment ago should also be headed in your direction. When the timing is right (in other words, before either of them get too close as they are both headed left), toss a spike mine at the base of the stairs.

As the two guards approach, they should be almost on top of another by the point one of them reaches the spike mine you placed. They are in an area well lit by two overhead lights, so there will be no missing it when one of them steps on the trap and is killed. That will terrify the other one, securing you the seal.

Open All the Gas Vents

To clear the stage, you must open at least three gas vents, out of a total of six. They are located in corridors that branch off from the tall elevator shaft that runs through the center of the outbuilding. You reach that shaft by finally heading left from the room outlined above, where you can frighten a guard by killing his comrade with a spike mine. You’ll sabotage a gas main further to the left, which causes the elevator to descend to the base of the shaft so it is out of your way. Then you can ascend the shaft and pass through vents on either side to enter corridors where the gas vents are positioned.

To find the first vent, ascend the shaft until you come to the first vent opening on the right, just beneath a pair of lasers that are positioned across the shaft. Pass through the opening and proceed through the next two rooms, using potted plants and overhead vents to bypass guards. Watch out for the motion-sensing alarms, as well. On the far right side of that corridor, roll through a vent opening and ascend through the vent to reach a higher room that leads back toward the left. Eliminate or avoid guards and a dog as you proceed in that direction to finally reach the vent.

The second vent up on the left side of the elevator shaft leads to the second vent. Run a short distance left after passing through the opening to find a door with lasers on the other side. Wait until the light turrets are pointing almost toward each other, so their beams are a fair distance from the door. Then open the door and step through it. Toss a dart up at the overhead fuse box to disable the beams. Then you can head left a short distance to the vent.

After you open the first two vents, the laser beams that are positioned across the elevator shaft will disappear, so that you can climb higher. Enter the next opening on your left from there, and start left until you quickly reach a wall. Grapple up to the vent opening overhead, and pass through the vent to arrive on the next floor. There is a guard to your left, admiring the view, and another one to your right, near the third vent. Grapple up to the ceiling, let the guard get near and pass below you, then silently kill him. Now you can safely head right to pick the lock covering the vent. Then you should open it, while being careful not to get caught moving in the blue security light.

When you have opened the first three vents outlined above, head back to the main shaft and enter the opening just slightly to the upper right, which provides access to a larger series of rooms. Work your way to the right, minding the guards and dog. Use large vases for shelter, and eliminate or avoid the guards as you see fit. In this direction, you will find a vent. Again, you must pick the lock that covers it before you can open the vent itself.

The fifth gas vent is not far at all from the fourth one. Ascend through the vent in the ceiling just to the upper right, and then look near ground level. Positioned between two staircases, you will see an obvious vent. Eliminate the guards (take out some of them with the chandelier, if you also want to acquire the separate seal outlined further down this page) and open the vent.

Now you have only one more vent to find. Head left from where you opened the fifth vent, and destroy the fuse box. Then pass through the opening to the left to return to the vertical elevator shaft. Ascend the shaft’s left side, passing two vents before entering a third that leads into a small, square room. Roll through the opening along that room’s lower left side, descend through the ductwork, and emerge at the upper left side of a room with a horizontal laser beam that moves up and down. Watch for it to drop, then grapple to the left of two grapple points. Quickly grapple right and then toss a dart at the overhead fuse box. You need to do this quickly, before the laser beam ascends and fries you. If you were in time, you will disable the beam and then you can open the final vent at your leisure to claim the seal.

Kill Two Guards with a Single Chandelier

In the large room where you find the fifth gas vent, as outlined above, there is a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. You can use this chandelier to easily complete this seal’s objective.

As you arrive at the room from a vent in the floor near its right side, you should see a grapple point positioned over a staircase. When you safely can, grapple to that point and let the guards go about their patrols. Two of them have a routine. They will start near the upper right, descend the stairs, pass under the chandelier, then climb stairs near the left side of the chamber before descending it again and heading back your way once more. As they are about to pass beneath the chandelier, toss a dart at the chandelier. It works best to toss it when the guard’s gun or flashlight is just a short distance left of where they chandelier will fall, so that when the guards continue walking as the fixture falls, they walk into position to be eliminated. If you wait too late, the chandelier will only take out one guard and that doesn’t count.

Not far into the stage, you will enter and start through a high tower. You are near the lowest level as you arrive, and you will descend some stairs and reach a room where you can frighten a guard by killing his comrade with a spike mine. In that room, kill any guards and the dog, then head to the lower right side to find the scroll resting on a pedestal.

After reaching the building you are supposed to set ablaze by the end of the mission, you will soon reach an elevator shaft. You can lower the elevator, then start climbing to find side corridors and open gas vents. The second opening on the left leads to the second gas vent, as outlined in the section above. Once you open that vent, you can start right and you should see a vent in the ceiling. Head up to that vent and start through the passage to find the scroll.

In the room where you can find the fifth gas vent and drop a chandelier to kill two guards at once, head toward the apparent far right side on ground level and find a vent. Pass through that vent opening and continue a short distance right to find the entrance to the stage’s challenge room.

To clear the challenge room, complete the following steps:

  1. Head right across the floor and then grapple up to the lower right grapple point.
  2. Grapple to the point just to the right and press the indicated button to flip the switch, which activates a horizontal laser beneath you.
  3. Grapple left to reach the alcove along the far left side of the area, which is even with your current position.
  4. Press the switch in that alcove, activating another horizontal laser below your current level.
  5. Grapple up to the next point overhead, and left to the alcove, where you should flip the next switch and cause an overhead laser to disappear.
  6. Climb up along the wall, high enough to grapple to still another point higher up in the room.
  7. Grapple from that point to the alcove just to the upper right, where you can disable the power.

  1. Grapple back down to the lower left and press the switch in that alcove again, restoring the overhead laser you disabled a moment ago but also eliminating the laser below you.
  2. Follow the grapple points down and toward the right, then ascend to the alcove along the right side that is located just below and to the right of a horizontal beam.
  3. Flip that switch to eliminate the nearby beam.
  4. Grapple toward the upper left, and then hop to the alcove and interact with the switch located in that space to disable a second power supply.
  5. Grapple directly to the right and flip the switch in the middle of the three alcoves positioned near one another on that side of the room, which eliminates an overhead laser.
  6. Grapple to the upper left and then right into that alcove and flip that switch also. Doing so eliminates the lower of the two lasers at the top of the chamber.
  7. Cross the room at that level and flip the switch in the top alcove along the room’s left side, which eliminates the last overhead laser.
  8. Cross back over to the middle using your grappling hook, and jump up into the small overhead room to finally grab the scroll.
