Mark of the Ninja: Remastered’s “An Ancestral Home” mission will take you through some of the most beautiful territory you’ve yet seen, but it also ranks among the most dangerous. You’ll have to deal with new traps and increased resistance as you explore.

Seals

Stealth Kill All the Guards in the Catacombs

When you enter the Catacombs, near the end of your journey through the stage, you’ll know it because the region’s name will appear on the screen. Until then, you can ignore this particular seal’s objective to focus on other ones.

When you arrive in the Catacombs, head left and hide in the opening in the wall which is positioned above a set of low openings with poison gas. When the guard approaches and turns back to head in the opposite direction, you can sneak up and skewer him from behind. Then take care of the first of seven targets.

Continue left to the end of the walkway, then descend through a vertical shaft. There is an apparent grappling point at the top here, but it isn’t blue. It will crumble and fall away when you stand on it for a bit, so keep that in mind. You can drop down and then start to the right along the next passageway to find another guard. Throw a smoke bomb to block his vision before you get too close, then run up and kill him while he can’t see you.

Once you kill that guard, drag his corpse to the right so you can pass beneath the four lasers that form a wall. Remember that they become disabled when you bring a body nearby, so the guy you just killed is your means of safe passage. Ascend the wall the lasers were blocking and pass through the vent, then descend through the passage to arrive at the area known as The Inquisitor’s Dungeon. There is a yellow patch of light not far to the upper left that indicates a checkpoint, so go ahead and activate that checkpoint if you’ve performed as intended up to this point.

Now you receive your new stage objective: Open the Way to the Catacombs. Descend through the next passage by grappling to the various points when lasers won’t fry you. There are two guards monitoring the space below and to the left. One remains stationary, looking off toward the left, and his fellow occasionally comes closer before heading back to the left. Wait until he comes close and then turns around. If you safely can, drop down and pursue him. Take him down with a stealth kill from behind, then do the same thing to his friend.

You now have only three more guards to eliminate, but first you have to find them. Drag one of the corpses you just created to the right. Open the door you find there and drag the corpse through so you can get near enough the generator to disable it. Now head back left and drop through the vent in the floor. Proceed along the low passage until a vent to the left allows you to climb back to a higher level, in front of a gate that currently is sealed.

Head up the wall and work your way left. You will have to jump from a ledge above two horizontal lasers, grapple out to a ledge to the upper left, and perch on it for a moment. To the left, a laser roams back and forth. When you safely can, drop down as the laser heads left. Rush to the protective hole in the wall and hide there as the laser passes back toward the right. Then run left and jump up to the higher ledge to pull a lever.

The lever deactivates the lasers, so now you can return to the right and drop down into the room with the generator. Do so. Before you disable the generator, though, you should place a spike mine on the floor in front of the gate to your left, if you have one. Then you can disable the generator, and then you should immediately grapple up to the overhead grapple point. The gate to the left opens, and there are three guards who will head right to investigate. One should be eliminated by the spike trap, leaving you to kill the two others and claim your seal.

Sneak into the Castle Without Being Detected

From the start of the stage, play through the first series of buildings. You’ll occasionally meet up with Ora, your companion on this journey, and eventually your meeting will lead you along a low passageway with a vent on the end. The Sneak Past the Gate objective is provided, along with a note about the optional seal being available.

From that point on until you hear otherwise, you need to avoid detection by guards in order to secure the seal. You can start by pulling a guard into your safe point when his patrol brings him too close for comfort. Do it while the other nearby guard’s back is turned. Then make your way right and ascend along the wall in that direction so you can easily drop down and eliminate said guard as he comes back toward you.

There are two guards on the overhead walkway and they’re also a concern. You need to get near them without letting flashes of lightning give away your location. One guard mostly just stands around smoking, but the other likes to be more ambitious and walks back and forth with his flashlight pointed at his feet. The best way to approach these guys is by taking the back route. There’s a passage on the lower level that leads right to a room with a fuse box. Go through that room and hit the fuse box with a dart, then sneak through the low passage along the upper left. You can approach the two guards on the walkway from behind and eliminate them more safely, one at a time.

With those fellows out of the way, you have two more to worry about. Head to the upper left of the walkway the two men were guarding and hide behind the small dumpster resting there. This will shield you from sight if any lightning flashes. As the patrolling guard heads back to the right, you can grapple up to the upper ledge and then hop up to the ceiling. Then you can use the handholds to head right while the guard continues his patrol beneath you. When he’s a safe distance away, drop and kill the guy who remains stationary. Then quickly return to the roof overhead. The other guard will come back, see the corpse lying out in the open, and start to freak. You can quickly drop from above to stealth kill him once he is in his agitated state, which will secure you one of the stage’s seals. Then you can head into the doorway the men were guarding and you will receive credit for sneaking in without being detected.

Lure a Guard Into a Stealth Kill Using a Dead Body

The trick here is to kill an enemy near a point where there are lots of places to hide, and where another enemy is likely to find the corpse. Then you can hide until it’s time to move in for the kill. One easy place to do this is on the walkways while you are attempting to sneak into the castle building, as outlined in detail above.t

After a few initial confrontations with guards near the stage’s beginning, you’ll start exploring some ruins and will soon receive an order to Breach the Castle Walls. You can ascend through the following area by sneaking past a guard and a dog, climbing past some dangling and sparking wires, and finally coming to high ground where you will see the way forward to the right and a large tree and guard to the left. Take the detour to the left along the rooftop, sneak past a guard standing beneath a spotlight that sweeps left and right, and then descend through a vent to arrive in a cramped passageway. As you start right toward a crate you will find in that direction, look carefully between the two lights that hang from the ceiling just ahead of the crate. You’ll find the scroll resting on a pedestal.

After obtaining the first scroll, return to the rooftop and head back to the right. Continue in that direction and be mindful of the heavy guard presence. They patrol along stairs that descend past a spotlight toward the area to the lower right. There are flashes of lightning that also threaten to expose you. As you descend, watch for a point where you can drop through the second long staircase and then head left along a flat area to find a crate resting against a wall. Pull the crate away from the wall, then drop through the vent it covered. Continue to descend to find another crate, also against a wall. Pull it right so you can get to its left side, and then push it right along the corridor until it comes to rest in a position that blocks lasers from forming a wall between floor and ceiling. Head a short distance to the right from there to find yet another crate. Pull it left, then hop from it to the wall and climb the wall to reach a high ledge where you can grab the scroll from a pedestal.

Upon entering the Catacombs near the end of the stage, work your way toward the far left side near the upper level. You’ll have to avoid some guards and deal with the low pools of poison gas. Then you’ll reach a wall with a crate near it. Scale the wall and drop down along the other side to find an artifact before you pass through a vent on ground level. Roll along that low passage to arrive at the challenge room.

To clear the challenge room, complete the following steps:

  1. Drop from the pedestal where you first appear to the next one down in the chamber.
  2. Dangle from that pedestal so that you are even with a fuse box to the right. Toss a dart to disable it and eliminate some lasers.
  3. From the pedestal where you dangled, jump toward the upper right and quickly fire your grappling hook to grapple to that ledge before you drop and fry yourself on lasers.
  4. From that ledge, throw another dart to disable the fuse box to the right.
  5. Return to the pedestal to the lower left, and this time jump toward the upper left and grapple to a ledge in that direction.
  6. Dangle from that ledge and throw a dart to the left to disable another fuse box.
  7. Return to the grapple point to the lower right.

  1. Hop toward the lower left and throw a grappling hook to latch to that ledge.
  2. Dangle from the ledge and toss a dart left to disable the fuse box.
  3. Return again to the grapple point to the upper right.
  4. Dangle from the ledge so that you descend almost even with a few lasers that remain to your right.
  5. Drop and quickly grapple over to the ledge to the lower right before you fall into a laser beam.
  6. Dangle from that ledge so that you can toss a dart right and disable another fuse box.
  7. Grapple to the final point at the bottom center of the room.
  8. Dangle from that grapple point and collect the scroll.
