Mark of the Ninja: Remastered’s “A Tale From the Past” is a special stage originally released as DLC. It takes place separately from your main campaign adventure. When you select Dosan’s Tale from the standard level select screen, you can attempt it. “A Tale From the Past” has seals to complete and scrolls to find, just like any campaign stage, although there is no challenge room.
Knock Out an Enemy After Stunning Them with Dusk Moths
The stage begins with a journey through a cave. As you reach the end of the caves, you’ll drop through a room with a package you can open to obtain the Dusk Moths.
After acquiring the gear, you can exit to the right and arrive in an open area where you receive a new objective: Reach the Ruined Fortress. Optionally, you can stun an enemy using your new Dusk Moths attack, then knock him out to obtain a seal.
You don’t have to wait for a special enemy or circumstance. Just head across the rooftops leading right and you will arrive at a vantage point above a balcony where a guard is standing. Toss the Dusk Moths his way and watch him crumple to the ground. Then drop down to his level and knock him unconscious.
Arm Two of the Fortress Traps Without Being Seen
You can begin working on this seal once you finally arrive at the fortress. As you reach the entrance, you receive a new objective: Secure the Ruined Fortress. From now on, getting spotted will cause you to fail the optional seals objective, which is to activate two out of three traps without being seen.
When your main objective is presented, you’re provided with a quick look at the fortress layout. Essentially, there are traps you can activate by reaching the end of gauntlets to the north, east and west. Each route you might choose to follow will lead you past a series of already activated traps and guard patrols that make progress difficult, but it’s nothing you can’t handle naturally by now.
Once you activate two of the three traps without the alarm being sounded, you get the seal. If you are spotted along the way, restart from the last checkpoint.
Use a Suspended Block Trap to Terrify a Bandit
Although there is at least one suspended block trap earlier in the stage, you aren’t prompted to use one to obtain a seal until most of the way through the stage, as you arrive at the conservatory.
From where you receive notice of that optional objective, head right to the next spire and climb the wall up to the level where a guard is patrolling. As he heads back toward the right, sneak behind him long enough to drop down into a shaft. At the base of that shaft, roll through an opening to the right. Then start climbing up that wall. Overhead, near the guard, you should see a lever.
Let the guard head left and then back right. As he continues right, he’ll pass under the block trap, which is positioned along the ceiling. When he does, scramble up to the ledge and pull the lever. It will cause the trap to drop, crushing the guard. Now quickly drop down to the lower level and wait. A guard should approach from the right, see the corpse of his pal, and freak out a bit. You’ll receive the seal as a reward.

A Tale From the Past Scroll #1
As you are working to reach the ruined fortress early in the stage, you’ll pass through a large second series of caves. Proceed right through the area, avoiding guards and doing your best not to trigger any traps unnecessarily, until you reach a place where you can drop through a ledge to a small chamber with spikes along the floor. It’s located just ahead of the checkpoint ahead of where you receive the Fungal Spores equipment.
As you drop through the floor, you should grapple to a point on the wall to the right. Then hop left to solid ground to the left of the spikes, where you’ll find the scroll resting on a pedestal.
A Tale From the Past Scroll #2
After you make your way through some caverns, you’ll arrive at a fortress. There, you must activate three traps before you can proceed onward. Your new goal is to reach the conservatory. Along the way, you’ll pass along a series of heavily guarded rooftops.
Near the end of that area, climb to the roof of one of the highest buildings (the one just before you reach the conservatory). You should arrive from the building’s left side, which triggers a checkpoint.
Ahead of you, there will be a series of traps placed around a pedestal with a scroll resting on it. Immediately ahead of you is a pressure plate that activates a swinging blade if you step on it. Past that are explosives.
There are a few ways to get at the scroll.
One easy method is to cross over the room by way of the roof, now that a checkpoint is activated. Then approach the scroll from the right side, which is easier.
If you mess up, you can always try again without losing much ground.
You can also try approaching from beneath, if you prefer.
A Tale From the Past Scroll #3
The final scroll in “A Tale From the Past” is located inside the conservatory. As you proceed through the building, you receive an objective instructing you to Kill or Knock Out All Bandits in the Conservatory. There are 16 of them, and you’ll have to carefully cover a lot of ground. Near the center of the area, descend to the lowest level and proceed along the ground floor. You should see a place where you can drop through the floor to find a lower chamber. The scroll is resting on a pedestal along the left side of that chamber.
