Unlike other role-playing games, you won’t purchase the most important items in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin in shops. Instead, you’ll collect materials out in the game world and combine ingredients to create what you need.
In this Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin guide on how to combine items, we’ll show you how to craft the items you need to survive. This guide will show you where combining items takes place and how to save time when making new items.
How to combine items
As you explore the world in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, you’ll run across multiple materials like herbs, mushrooms, and more. These small items don’t do much on their own. However, when you combine them, you can create all sorts of helpful items.

To combine items, press X to enter your camp menu then select Combine. Once you’ve selected an item, you’ll see what materials are needed to create a single piece. Next, you’ll select the quantity of the item you want to make. If you have a large number of materials, you can press the X button to craft the maximum amount you can create based on the ingredients you have.
As you progress throughout the game, you’ll gain recipes to craft stronger healing items and other support equipment. Be sure to constantly collect materials while exploring so you’ll always have crafting materials on hand. Monsties like the Aptonoth can detect plant materials and mark them on your map with their riding action.
Outside of potions, which are great items to use in and out of battle, be sure to craft Mahana Dunkers. These tasty treats are used to quickly heal your entire party outside of battle. To use these doughnuts to quickly heal, you can either tap the L button while out in the field or choose the Quick Heal option in the camp menu.
