Not far into Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… — shortly after you meet Grimoire Weiss and return to your home Village — you’ll unlock quests (or side quests). These tend to be fetch quests for the folks you meet on your journey, and usually reward you with gold, items, or even weapons. They’re usually not super complicated, but each comes with a reward that makes them worth the time.
NieR Replicant is broken in two halves — we’re calling them Part 1 and Part 2. Below, we’ve listed every side quest available in Part 1. It’s important to know that Part 1 quests cannot be completed once you move on to Part 2 — they’ll get moved to your Uncompletable Quests list. If you’re going for 100% Quest Completion, you’ll need to make sure every Part 1 quest is complete before you progress into Part 2 of the game.
In this Nier Replicant remake guide, we’ll list every quest in the first half of the game and walk you through completing them. We’ll include screen shots and maps to help you complete every one before continuing into the second half.

Herbal Remedies
In the Village, talk to Popola in her office on the second floor of the library. (If you’re still early in the game, you’ll have to wait until you see the quests explainer pop up, and then head back into the library.) She’ll ask you to gather two medicinal herbs. You can go gather them yourself or buy them from a shop (or you might’ve already gathered them). Speak to Popola again to get a reward of 500 gold.
The Gatekeeper’s Errand
On the north side of the Village, speak to the Guard on the right (east) side of the gate to the Northern Plains. Head to the southern end of the shopping district in the southwest of the Village and speak to the blacksmith’s wife. Your reward is 500 gold.
The Lost Eggs
At the north end of the shopping district in the Village, speak to the Item Shopkeeper. He’ll ask you to return with a Chicken Egg.
The egg is on the east side of the fountain in the middle of the Village. There’s no shining spot, so you’ll have to approach the pillar to make it appear.
Return the egg to the Item Shopkeeper and claim your reward of a Health Salve.
Old-Fashioned Home Cooking
In the Village shopping district, speak the woman villager sitting on the bench in the northwest. She’ll ask you bring back 10 mutton.
Head to the Northern Plains, and hunt sheep until you collect 10 mutton. (Dark Blast is a fast and easy way to take down a sheep.) If you run out of prey, leave the area, return, and they’ll respawn. Make sure you strip sheep soon after killing them — the corpses seem to despawn very quickly.
Return to the villager and claim your reward of 1,500 gold.
Shopping List
Speak to the Florist in the Village’s shopping district — she’s at the north end on the west side. She’ll ask you to head to Seafront and purchase three tulip bulbs from the Grocery Store. Do so, and she’ll reward you with 500 gold.
Completing this side quest unlocks cultivating plants — planting seeds and bulbs in the field next to your house.
Book Smarts
In the Village, speak to the villager in the northwest corner of the Library’s 3rd floor. Follow her directions and return the red book and blue book to the shelves. Speak to her again and claim your reward of 500 gold.
The Tavern Keeper’s Grandmother
In the shopping district of the Village, head into the Tavern — the sign out front has a keg, bottle, and wine glass on it — and speak to the Tavern Keeper. She’ll ask you to retrieve three medicinal herbs, three berries, and three royal ferns.
Medicinal herbs and berries are common in the Village and Northern Plains — just pick up any glowing spot you happen across. You can also buy medicinal herbs (100 gold) from the Item Shopkeeper and berries (200 gold) from the Material Shopkeeper in the Village.
Royal ferns are very rare in the Northern Plains. It’s much easier to just buy royal ferns (150 gold) from the Grocery Store in Seafront.
Return all nine ingredients to the Tavern Keeper in the Village, and she’ll turn it into an Old Lady’s Elixir. Take that to the woman by the fountain in the Village and claim your reward of 2,000 gold.
A Return to Shopping
After completing “Shopping List,” speak to the Florist in the Village’s shopping district again. She’ll ask you to buy three bounty fertilizers from Seafront’s Item Shop. Do so, and she’ll reward you with a tulip bulb, bounty fertilizer, and 2,000 gold.
Completing this side quest will expand your field.
Boar Hunt!
In the Village, speak to the old villager sitting on a crate at the northern end of the shopping district — he’s the first person you see on your left as you enter. He’ll tell you to hunt a wild boar in the Northern Plains.
You’ll find the boar in the southwest of the Northern Plains near the entrance to The Aerie. It hits hard, so be prepared to dodge.
Run behind one of the boulders nearby, and wait for the boar to charge. When it crashes into the rock, it’ll daze itself for a few seconds. Run out, deal as much damage as you can, and then hide behind the rock again. Repeat that process until you kill the boar. You’ll automatically pick up the Boar Tusk item.
Speak to the same villager in the shopping district to get your reward of 1,000 gold.
Yonah’s Cooking
After returning to the Village from Seafront with a shaman fish for Yonah, Yonah will ask for one venison and one wheat the next morning.
Go collect venison from the deer in the Southern Plains. Wheat can be harvested from around the Village (if you’re lucky) or just bought from the Village’s Grocery Store (500 gold) in the shopping district.
Your reward is to eat a delicious home-cooked meal.
On the Wings of Eagles
After completing “The Tavern Keeper’s Grandmother,” speak to the Tavern Keeper in the Village again. She’ll ask you to retrieve an eagle egg from The Aerie.
Head to The Aerie, and climb up toward the elder’s house (the gold one). Before you climb the ladder to his house, look south and below you. There will be a glowing object next to the house there. Drop down and collect the eagle egg.
Take it back to the Tavern Keeper, and she’ll turn it into an Old Lady’s Elixir+. Take this to the woman at the fountain to receive another 2,000 gold.
The Ballad of the Twins
Speak to the villager in the middle of the Village’s Tavern. He’ll ask you to speak to both Devola and Popola.
Speak to Devola in the Tavern, and then go talk to Popola inside her office in the Library.
Popola will ask you for a drink from the Tavern in Seafront. You’ll find the Tavern at the southern end of Seafront’s main road — there’s a wine glass and pitcher (ewer?) on the sign. The Tavern Keeper there will tell you they need five lizard tails and five mouse tails.
Lizard tail locations
You’ll find lizards running around on the ground in the Northern Plains. Catch them to collect lizard tails. We found three locations — shown on the map above — where we could usually find them. Leaving the area and returning will get them to respawn.
Mouse tail locations
Similarly, you’ll find mice running around Junk Heap: Outside in the Nier Replicant remaster. Catch them to collect mouse tails. There are only two — their locations are marked on the map above. Leaving the area and returning will get them to respawn.
Return to the Tavern Keeper in Seafront once you’ve collected the ingredients. He’ll send you back to Popola. Talk to her in her Library office in the Village.
You’ll fast-forward to the Tavern and get a special performance as your reward.
A Signature Dish
Speak to the Tavern Keeper in Seafront. They’ll tell you that they need 10 medicinal herbs, 10 bags of wheat, and 10 sardines for their signature dish.
You’ll find medicinal herbs pretty much everywhere — both in glowing gathering spots and as drops from shades. Or you can buy some for 100 gold at any Item Shop.
If you’ve unlocked your Garden by completing “Shopping List,” you can grow your own wheat from seeds. This takes a very long time, though. Instead, buy it from the Village’s Grocery Store for 500 gold each.
After completing “The Fisherman’s Gambit,” you’ll be able to catch your own sardines — use lugworms from the beach at the south end of Seafront’s shopping district. Alternately, you can buy them for 250 gold each from Seaport’s Fish Shop.
Return all the ingredients to Seafront’s Tavern to claim your reward of 5,000 gold. Make sure to stock back up on medicinal herbs at an Item Shop.
Fragile Delivery
In the Village, speak to the guard on the left (west) side of the gate to the Northern Plains. He’ll ask you to deliver something to The Aerie.
The parcel is fragile (hence the name), so you cannot roll or get knocked down until you deliver it. Jumping, attacks, and magic won’t break the parcel. Make sure to avoid sheep (they kick if you come up behind them) and shades as you cross the Northern Plains. If you’ve completed “Boar Hunt!,” your mount will make traversing the Northern Plains much easier. Just make sure you don’t crash it into any rocks.
Return to the guard to get another parcel and try again if you fail. (Depending on when you attempt it, you might have no choice but to break the parcel due to story events in The Aerie.)
Drop the parcel at the chief’s house — the gold house on the highest level of The Aerie — and return to the guard in the Village. He’ll give you your reward of 1,450 gold.
Fragile Delivery 2
Once you’ve completed “Fragile Delivery,” look for an old man villager near the fountain at the north end of the Village’s shopping district. He’ll give you another fragile parcel to take to the Tavern Keeper in Seafront.
Again, you can’t dodge or get hit while carrying it. If you have completed “Boar Hunt!,” there is a boar in the Souther Plains. Feel free to ride it, but be careful in the narrow parts.
Deliver the parcel, and return to the old man in the Village. He’ll reward you with 1,500 gold.
The Fisherman’s Gambit
In Seafront, after you’ve caught the shaman fish and returned, speak to the resident by the waterfront. He’ll teach you more about fishing.
Different fish respond to different baits. For the 10 sardines he requires, you’ll need to use lugworms. The Tackle Shop in Seafront sells them for 10 gold each. Make sure to buy extra (we went through about 20) to account for lost fish, catching the wrong fish, or the junk you’ll inevitably catch.
Head to the beach just to the west — at the south end of Seafront’s shopping district — to find sardines. Don’t sell any of the other kinds of fish you catch, though. You’ll probably need them in the subsequent parts of “The Fisherman’s Gambit.”
Return to the resident with your 10 sardines and he’ll reward you by improving your fishing skill.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 2
Once you’ve completed “The Fisherman’s Gambit,” return to the resident and speak to him again.
This time, he’ll ask for 10 blowfish. You’ll need to use lugworms again. Make sure to buy plenty extra. You’ll catch blowfish from the same beach you caught the sardines — just to the west of the fisherman.
Bring him the 10 blowfish, and he’ll again increase your fishing skill.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 3
After “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 2,” return to the fisherman in Seafront again. This time, he needs 7 rainbow trout.
Head to the Northern Plains and down to the water near the base of the bridge leading to Junk Pile. Use your lure for these. Buy a couple extra just in case, but the lure is reusable, so you won’t be going through them the same way you did lugworms.
Return the fish to Seafront, and you’ll once again improve your fishing skill.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 4
After “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 3,” return to the fisherman in Seafront again. This time, he needs 5 bream.
You need lugworms or a lure. You might catch bream from the same beach you caught the sardines and blowfish — just to the west of the fisherman — but you’ll also catch a lot of sardines and blowfish, too. We had more luck fishing with a lure from the stone pier standing directly next to the fisherman.
Return the fish to him, and you’ll once again improve your fishing skill.
The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 5
After “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 4,” return to the fisherman in Seafront again. This time, he needs 5 black bass.
Head to the Village. Right in the middle of the map — directly west of your house and the save point — head down to the water. Use a lure to fish.
Return the fish to him, and you’ll once again improve your fishing skill. This is the last Fisherman’s Gambit quest to complete before the second half of the Nier Replicant remake.
A Dog Astray
In the Village shopping district, speak to the villager next to the Blacksmith. He’ll ask you to find his dog Max in the Northern Plains.
In the Northern Plains, head straight north and down to the water along the west side of the bridge to Junk Heap. You’ll spot the dog, but you’ll also be attacked by a few large shades. Handle them, and retrieve Max’s Herbs from the dog.
Return to the shopping district. The villager who gave you the quest will be gone, but another will be standing in the same place. Speak to him to receive a very depressing story and 1,000 gold.
The New Merchant in Town
In Seafront, head to the far east-southeast and look for a resident on a large boat. Speak to him, and he’ll tell you he wants to start a new shop.
He needs 10 wool, 5 natural rubber, and 10 goat hides.
Wool comes from killing sheep, but it’s a pretty rare drop — it feels like somewhere between a 10-25% chance. Head to the Northern Plains, and just start killing sheep (Dark Blast is great for this) until you collect 10 wool.
Goat hides come from killing goats, but is a similarly rare drop. There are several goats mixed in with the sheep in the Northern Plains, and there are several along the Eastern Road. Kill goats (Dark Blast is also great for this) until you collect 10 goat hides.
The best way to get natural rubber is from Seafront’s Material Shop for 700 gold each.
Take everything back to the resident. He’ll ask for help loading everything onto the ship, but you won’t actually have to do anything.
He won’t pay you yet. Leave Seafront and come back. Speak to him again, and he’ll give you a reward of 10,000 gold.
The Postman’s Request
Speak to Devola in the Village’s Tavern. She’s got a few quests for you — the other two are “Bon Appetit!” and “Fragile Delivery 3.”
She’ll point you to the Postman in Seafront. Visit him, and he’ll give you a letter for the Lighthouse Lady.
Deliver it to her at the top of her lighthouse. She’ll reward you with 1,000 gold.
The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath
After “The Postman’s Request,” speak to Devola in the Village’s Tavern again to pick up the “The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath” quest. (It doesn’t seem like you can get this quest elsewhere.)
Head to Seafront. Inside the post office, you’ll encounter both the Postman and the Lighthouse lady. After the cutscene, speak to the Postman. Head to the lighthouse and speak to the Lighthouse Lady. Then, head back and talk to the Postman again.
Leave the post office, and then head back inside.
Scoot the boxes around to match the image above, and you’ll open a door. In that back office, pick up the Postman’s Parcel from the desk. Speak to the Postman again, and he’ll give you a letter for the old woman.
Head to the lighthouse again to speak with the Lighthouse Lady. You’ll get the choice to “Give her the letter and perpetuate the lie” or “Tell her that her lover is dead.”
Choosing to give her the letter will complete this quest (and you won’t get a reward).
Choosing to tell the truth will prompt a conversation. Speak to her again after it’s over for another conversation and a reward of 1,000 gold.
Closure
After completing “The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath” — no matter which option you chose at the end — speak to Devola in the Village’s Tavern again to pick up the “Closure” quest.
Head back to Seafront and speak to the Postman. You’ll get an option to lie to him or tell him the truth about the end of “The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath.”
Either option will complete the quest.
Yonah’s Gift
After fighting the huge shade with Kaine in The Aerie, return to the Village and speak to Yonah. She’ll ask for one melon.
If you’ve completed “Shopping List” and have a lot of time on your hands, you can grow your own. Otherwise, buy one from Seafront’s Grocery Store for 1,200 gold.
Hand it over, and she’ll ask for a watermelon. Grow one, or buy one from Facade’s Grocery Store for 800 gold.
Next, she’ll ask for a pumpkin. Grow one, or buy one from Facade’s Grocery Store for 500 gold.
Once you’ve delivered all three, you’ll get a delicious cake as your reward.
Letter to a Lover
Look for a resident wandering near Seafront’s fountain on the west side of town. He’ll give you a Letter to a Faraway Lover and a Potted Freesia to deliver to The Aerie.
Head to The Aerie. Climb up to the top level like you’re going to the chief’s house. As you approach the chief’s house (the gold one), take a left. Your destination is the leftmost house on this level.
The letter’s recipient won’t be home. Start making your way out of The Aerie. On your way out, you’ll get attacked by a large shade. Defeat it to get a Pressed Freesia.
Take that back to the resident in Seafront to claim your reward of 3,000 gold.
Bon Appetit!
Speak to Devola in the Village’s Tavern. She’s got a few quests for you — the other two are “The Postman’s Request” and “Fragile Delivery 3.” (You can also pick this one up directly from the Seafront Tavern Keeper.)
Head to Seafront and speak to the Tavern Keeper. He’ll ask for help finding new recipes.
Go to the Village’s Library. Inside, take an immediate left and examine the first set of shelves. You’ll pick up a cookbook. Return it to the Seafront Tavern Keeper. He’ll ask you to help him get 5 sharks, 5 bags of rice, and 5 mushrooms.
After completing “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 5,” you’ll be able to catch sharks with sardines as bait from the beach in Seafront. (Either catch sardines with lugworms or just buy them from the fishmonger.) Sharks are relatively easy to reel in with your improved fishing skills. If you find yourself in a minutes-long battle, that’s probably a blue marlin. They’re worth 1,900 gold at a shop, but you will (eventually) need two for “The Fisherman’s Gambit, Part 8.” Sharks, on the other hand, won’t come up again, so you can sell any extra for 1,250 gold.
Both rice and mushrooms are sold at the Grocery Store here in Seafront (600 and 800 gold, respectively).
Deliver all the ingredients to the Tavern Keeper to claim your reward of 5,000 gold.
Fragile Delivery 3
Speak to Devola in the Village’s Tavern. She’s got a few quests for you — the other two are “The Postman’s Request” and “Bon Appetit!” (You can also pick this one up directly from the Eastern Road gate guard.)
In the Village, speak to the guard on the left side of the gate to the Eastern Road. He’ll ask you to deliver a fragile parcel to the weapon shop in Facade. Once again, you can’t dodge or get hit while carrying it, so watch out for enemies. You’re going to get attacked a lot crossing the Desert, so be prepared.
Speak to the Blacksmith in Facade. (This is a convenient time to pick up “The Littlest Hero.”) Head back to the guard to claim your reward of 2,900 gold.
The Tangled Message
In Facade, head to the pillar in the very center of town (it’s the same place you’ll end up if you fall into the sand river). Speak to the Masked Soldier there, and he’ll give you a task. You have to deliver five messages to five people around town. If you screw up, you’ll have to start over.
In order, speak to:
- The person guarding the left side of the exit (the guard at the south side of the town entrance gate) and deliver the message, “The Masked People respect their rules.”
- He who protects the king’s left (the guard on the north side of the door to the King’s Mansion) and deliver the message, “The Men of the Mask work for the king.”
- The person taking care of the children (the woman speaking to children near the sandwheel on the north side of town) and deliver the message, “Child care can be difficult.”
- The southeastern guardian (the treasury guard in the southeast on the lowest level of town) and deliver the message, “Only nobility may enter the treasury.”
- The long-winded person (a little north of the strange-things shop in the northwest corner of town, look for a Masked Person standing near a sandfall) and deliver the message, “Quicksand.”
Once you deliver the final message, you’ll get your reward of 10,000 gold.
Item Unknown
In Facade, look for a Masked Person wandering near the King’s Mansion on the east side. She’ll ask for help getting her daughter a birthday present — “10 round, striped food objects.”
Head to the Grocer in the southeast of Facade and buy 10 watermelons for 800 gold each.
Take them back to the Masked Person to claim your reward of 3,000 gold.
The Runaway Son
At the south end of the Village’s shopping district, look for a man standing across from the blacksmith. He’ll ask if you’ve seen his son.
Head to Seafront and look for a man near the fountain on the west side of town. He’s the one wearing a pointy hat. Speak to him, and he’ll ask you for 5 mutton and 3 goat meat. If you don’t have that on you, head to the Northern Plains. There are plenty of sheep there that will drop mutton along with a few goats for the goat meat. There are a few more goats along the Eastern Road. (This is a good quest to pair with “The New Merchant in Town.”)
Take the meats to Seafront’s Tavern at the south end of the shopping district. The Tavern Keeper won’t be any help, so head back to the Village to find the villager again. He’ll send you back to Seafront.
As soon as you enter Seafront, speak to the man standing on the right (west) side of the tunnel. He’ll point you Facade. (This part pairs well with “Fragile Delivery 3.”)
In Facade, head for the southwest corner, and look for Masked Persons to talk to. They’ll point you to a nearby house. Speak to the runaway again. After he cleverly distracts you, leave town and head back into the Desert.
Chase the runaway across the desert. Eventually, you’ll have to fight off a pack of wolves. At that point, the runaway will agree to return home.
When you get back to the Village, examine the door behind where the father was standing — across from the blacksmith. After some conversation, you’ll get your reward of … an ending, of sorts, to the runaway’s story.
Apology from a Fool
Speak to the Strange-Thing Shopkeeper in Facade. He’ll ask you to collect 10 wolf hides.
Head into the Desert to hunt for them — this pairs well with “The Littlest Hero” where you’ll fight a ton of wolves.
Return with the 10 wolf hides, and he’ll ask you to speak to his wife. She’s just the northwest a couple floors up.
After a quick conversation, you’ll get your reward of 20,000 gold.
The Pride of a Lover
In Seafront, there is a resident standing near the base of the lighthouse.
He’ll have a dialogue bubble over his head, but the first few times you speak with him, he won’t give you this quest. Speak to him any time you pass through until he asks you to retrieve some fluorite from the strange-thing store in Facade.
In Facade, you’ll learn that the strange-thing store is out of fluorite. The Strange-Thing Shopkeeper will point you to the Barren Temple.
In the Barren Temple, head all the way to the north to the bridge leading to the Barren Temple: Hall. You’ll see the fluorite glowing on that bridge.
Take it all the way back to Seafront to collect your reward of 30,000 gold.
The Littlest Hero
Speak to the Blacksmith in Facade — you might already be speaking to him as part of “Fragile Delivery 3.” He’ll ask you to go help his son in the Desert.
Before you leave, cross to the east side of Facade. Speak to the Masked Soldier on the right of the King’s Mansion to get a Royal Compass.
Head into the Desert to find the wolf den — you’ll probably have to fight a lot of wolves on the way. When you come to the large door at the spot marked on the map above, head inside. Fight off the remaining wolves, and you’ll return to Facade automatically and collect your reward of 10,000 gold.
The Missing Girl
In Facade, look for a Masked Person in the northwest corner — just a little north of the Strange Things Shop. She’ll ask you to look for her daughter who is wearing a gold ring.
Speak to the Masked Person hanging out by the sand barge dock nearby to learn she was last seen hanging out with her boyfriend. Continue around to north to find another Masked Person near a sandfall who will tell you she was seen on the lowest level of the city.
Head down the nearby stairs as far as you can. Not far from the treasury, look for a bloodstain to the west. Speak to the guard at the treasury to learn the boyfriend is standing guard at the town entrance.
Head to the entrance and speak to the Masked Soldier on the right. He’ll point you to a sandspout well outside of town.
Exit the town. The well is the first small structure you’ll see. Investigate it, and then return to the girl’s mother inside Facade for a confusing development and a reward of 10,000 gold.
